Passport and visa are the two most important travel documents for you to enter another country or territory in the world . One of the issues that most interested travelers is applying for entry visas in other countries.
According to the newly updated data on passport rankings of Henley Passport Index 2025 (UK-based residence and citizenship consulting company) in October, Vietnam's passport ranked 92nd globally, down 4 places compared to the ranking in September.

With this ranking, citizens holding a Vietnamese passport can enter 50 destinations without a visa or only need to apply for an e-visa (electronic visa), border visa, ETA (electronic travel permit) in a total of 227 countries and territories.
Specifically, Vietnamese citizens will not need to apply for a visa at 24 destinations.
These include Barbados (an island country in the western Atlantic Ocean), Belarus, Brunei, Cambodia, Chile, the Cook Islands, Dominica, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Micronesia (a country in the western Pacific Ocean ), Mongolia, Myanmar, Panama (a country in Central America), the Philippines, Rwanda (a country in Central Africa), Singapore, Saint Lucia (an island country in the eastern Caribbean Sea), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (an island country in the Caribbean Sea), Suriname (a country in South America), and Thailand.
In addition, there are 22 destinations in the world for Vietnamese citizens to apply for a visa at the border . These include Bolivia, Burundi (a country in Central Africa), Cape Verde Islands, Comoro Islands, Djibouti (a country in Africa), Guinea-Bissau (in West Africa), Jordan (a country in the Middle East), Madagascar, Malawi (a country in East Africa), Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mauritius (an island country in the southwest Indian Ocean), Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal, Niue (an island country in the South Pacific), Palau Islands, Samoa (in the South Pacific), Sierra Leone (a country in West Africa), Tajikistan (a country in Central Asia), Tanzania and Tuvalu (an island country in the South Pacific).
For the remaining 4 destinations such as Kenya, Seychelles (island nation in the Indian Ocean), Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, Vietnamese citizens can apply for ETA (electronic travel authorization).
It is known that a ranked passport is a type of ordinary passport (not including official passports).

According to tourism experts, a country's decision to exempt or grant visas to citizens of another country will be based on the diplomatic relationship between the two countries, political and economic conditions, and the issue of illegal immigration.
Also in this ranking, the US passport fell out of the Top 10 most powerful passports in the world for the first time in 20 years.
The 3 most powerful passports in the world all belong to Asian countries, including Singapore (visa-free access to 193 destinations), South Korea ranked 2nd (visa-free access to 190 destinations) and Japan ranked 3rd (visa-free access to 189 destinations).
Notably, China's passport has seen a rapid rise in ranking, from 94th in the world (in 2015) to 64th (this year). Previously, the country expanded visa exemption to 37 destinations.
Meanwhile, the US passport dropped to 12th place and is on par with the Malaysian passport. Citizens of these two countries are exempt from visa requirements when entering 180 countries and territories out of 227 destinations in the world listed in the ranking.
On the other hand, the destinations with the lowest passport scores still belong to Afghanistan at 106th position (visa-free at 24 destinations), Syria (visa-free at 26 destinations) and Iraq (visa-free at 29 destinations).
The Henley Index is one of the few prestigious indices in the world that tracks the travel freedom of global passports.
The company uses proprietary data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The rankings are published twice a year at the beginning of the first and third quarters and are updated regularly.
The Henley Passport Index has been running since 2005.
