Born with congenital cerebral palsy, Le Viet Thuan ( Bac Ninh ) has never let fate decide his life. Having been bedridden for 9 years and undergone many surgeries at the National Burn Institute, Thuan still persevered in practicing, studying and striving with the desire to reach knowledge.
“My hands were so stiff that I couldn’t even hold a pen. Sometimes I had to ask my teacher to let me lie down to study because of the pain. But I believe that only studying can help me change my fate,” he shared. After many years of effort, in 2013, Thuan passed the entrance exams to two universities at the same time and chose to study Social Work at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU Hanoi). For him, it was not only a dream to reach the lecture hall, but also the beginning of a journey to help people in similar situations.
Returning to his hometown, with his knowledge and kindness, Le Viet Thuan actively participated in community work. In 2018, he founded the Bac Giang Disabled Youth Club under the Provincial Youth Union, which brings together dozens of members to support, share and spread the spirit of "Disabled but not useless". As the club's Chairman, he always strives to find ways to help members stabilize their lives, have the opportunity to integrate and become independent.

The club is currently divided into three groups: people who can work in businesses; people with mild disabilities who know information technology and work online; and the severe group who are completely dependent on subsidies. For each group, Thuan finds a separate way to support - from wheelchair mobility, connecting vocational training to finding sponsors to help families with special difficulties. He also proactively contacts authorities to support the issuance of identification papers for people with disabilities or connects with specialized kindergartens to find learning opportunities for children with cerebral palsy.
“I always wanted to create an inclusive environment where people with disabilities are not viewed with prejudice, but are respected like everyone else,” Mr. Thuan shared.
Those persistent efforts helped him receive many recognitions: Hoang Hoa Tham Award of Bac Giang Provincial Youth Union, Certificate of Merit of the Provincial Youth Union Committee, and many certificates of merit for outstanding achievements in the work of the Union and youth movements.
In 2021, Le Viet Thuan was one of 50 outstanding young people with disabilities honored in the program "Shining Vietnamese Willpower" organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union and TCPVN Company Limited.
Now, looking back on the past, the disabled graduate still maintains a simple belief: "No matter how challenging life is, as long as we don't give up, we will always find our way."
His story was also featured in the program “Love Station” on VTV1, broadcast at 10am on Saturday, November 8, recounting his journey of overcoming himself and spreading positive energy to the community.
