This revenue comes from more than 200 commercialized products and 296 knowledge-based technologies licensed by 20 universities, according to information at the Dewan Rakyat Education Conference.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, said the achievement reflected increased research and development (R&D) capacity and a focus on aligning research with market needs. This was a result of a combination of R&D activities, technology transfer strategies and business interest in locally developed intellectual products.
The Malaysian government has committed to continue providing funding to promote commercialization for universities in 2026, and is willing to provide additional funding for projects that reach a high level of technology readiness.
Currently, Malaysia’s top 5 research universities are training more than 180,000 students, of which more than 21% are international students. Not only focusing on training, the schools also expand research, innovation, and invention of new products. These advances bring high application and commercialization value.
