Golden opportunity

Today, December 4th, at the "Robotics and Intelligent Automation" seminar organized by the VinFuture Foundation in Hanoi , Dr. Nguyen Trung Quan, from the University of Southern California (USA), Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer of VinMotion, shared the challenges and opportunities for Vietnam in developing humanoid robots and physical artificial intelligence.

According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Quan , the combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and physics can create breakthroughs in scientific research. This combination allows machines not only to understand but also to interact with the real environment, creating an AI ecosystem that not only thinks but also acts. Many experts predict that in the next 10 years, the global AI-physics market could reach a size of up to $10 trillion.

Vietnam is a very attractive place to invest in the development of physical AI through the humanoid robotics industry due to its many advantages.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the seminar, Dr. Nguyen Trung Quan added: "Vietnam possesses many advantages in all three important aspects of humanoid robots, including good hardware, powerful software, and safe and reliable operation. We have all these elements and can develop them simultaneously, creating a foundation to enter international technological competition."

According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Quan, the robotics industry requires three crucial elements: highly skilled technology personnel for software and AI development; a flexible manufacturing base for prototyping and hardware production; and trust and security in application deployment. Currently, the US excels in the first area, while China has an advantage in the second. If positioned correctly, Vietnam could emerge as a counterweight to both the US and China, as it can perform well in all three areas.

"Our starting point isn't too far behind the rest of the world . We can absolutely believe that we can do well if we have enough faith and focus on investing in this area."

With good guidance and support from the Government, I believe that Vietnam can become a major, even leading, force in the development of robotics in the world. In my opinion, this is a golden opportunity for Vietnam to rise and make its mark on the world technology map," said Dr. Nguyen Trung Quan.

The goal is to compete with technological powerhouses.

According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Quan, when he accepted the position of leading VinMotion (this company has been established for almost a year now - PV), he and his colleagues set the goal of competing with the humanoid robot industry worldwide.

"My team and I at VinMotion have always aspired to contribute to bringing Vietnam to the same level as global technology powerhouses. I know this is a very ambitious goal, but I believe this is the golden time for us to dream of achieving it," said Dr. Nguyen Trung Quan.

Dr. Nguyen Trung Quan analyzed: "Vietnam has a very flexible manufacturing base, which is very suitable for producing and improving robot models quickly, ensuring quality, and keeping costs reasonable. This greatly helps us in continuously improving our robots. With the support of Vingroup, we can cooperate with many different subsidiaries to quickly deploy and improve our technology. Currently, we are testing at many different companies, from VinFast and Vinpearl to Vinmec."

We aim for a complete, long-lasting, and stable product at a reasonable cost, not just a demo technology in a lab. Therefore, these are enormous competitive advantages that allow us to continuously improve our products and technology faster than any other partner."

Dr. Nguyen Trung Quan added: "We are implementing a strategic cooperation with a leading global corporation in AI chips. This is an important strategic partnership, laying a solid foundation for VinMotion to enhance its position on the international stage."

We are collaborating with leading humanoid robotics research labs in the US. This not only helps to position VinMotion's brand and international influence, but also provides a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese engineers at VinMotion to learn the most advanced technologies, building a foundation of knowledge and skills ready for the sustainable development of VinMotion in particular and the Vietnamese robotics industry in general."
