Thailand women's team explodes under the leadership of a coach who has participated in the World Cup twice.
The Thai women's team had a resounding 8-0 opening victory over the Indonesian girls. This was an easy win for the host team because they were clearly stronger in terms of skill level and quality of squad. Moreover, although the opponent tried very hard, their resistance was too weak. The Indonesian girls were not capable of creating a respectable game, so the situation was almost one-sided. This big win in a group with only 3 teams (the Cambodian women's team withdrew) naturally gave the Thais an early ticket to the semi-finals because they only had to wait to meet Singapore in the final round on December 11.

Coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian once led the Thai women's team to qualify for the 2015 and 2019 World Cups.

The audience at Chonburi Stadium cheered and called out the name of Ms. Nuengrutai Srathongvian, who has only been in charge for the past 3 months, replacing Mr. Futoshi Ikeda, who was fired by the Football Association of Thailand (FAT). The Japanese coach was unsuccessful when Thailand finished fourth in the AFF Women's Cup held in Vietnam in August. FAT decided to appoint Ms. Nuengrutai Srathongvian, 53 years old, as the head coach of the women's team. She is an experienced expert, having led the team to the 2015 and 2019 World Cups and now aims to help the team regain the SEA Games 2025 gold medal.

Ms. Nuengrutai Srathongvian said: "With today's big win, we have entered the semi-finals. But in the coming time, we still have a lot of work to do, we have to prepare very carefully. Because look at the opponents in Group B, they are all very strong. For example, Vietnam is the defending champion, Myanmar was the runner-up of the AFF Cup 2025 and beat us. And the Philippines has a squad with many tall players, very formidable. So if we enter the semi-finals, it will be very difficult to meet any team. But as the home team and we have not won at the SEA Games for a long time, we are very eager. So no matter who the opponent is, we will wait to meet them with the most determined spirit to win."

Fans came to support the Thai team in large numbers.
