Audience moved by ballet 'Anna Karenina' for the first time in Vietnam

The play not only affirms the humanistic and immortal value of the work created 150 years ago, but is also considered an opportunity to renew it with contemporary artistic materials.

As part of its 2025 world tour, the famous ballet Anna Karenina will perform six nights in Vietnam, at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House from November 27-29 and the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace (Hanoi) from December 3-5.

The work was created based on the novel of the same name by writer Leo Tolstoy, first introduced to the public in 1873, performed by the Eifman Ballet Company from St. Petersburg (Russia). Organized by the Ministry of Culture , Sports and Tourism, Vietnam National Music and Dance Theater, Saigon Symphony Orchestra and several other units.

Compared to the novel, the ballet focuses on the main storyline, depicting the tragedy of a woman torn between the desire to be loved and social constraints, while affirming the timeless humanistic value of the original literary work, inspiring new and modern creations.

Ballet is often seen as an academic and elegant art form, but Eifman's "Anna Karenina" is neither remote nor inaccessible.

With its symphonies that are sometimes strong and sometimes poignant, its body language that is both graceful and decisive, and its setting arrangements that are both conventional and metaphorical, the work creates a strong flow of emotions that touches the hearts and minds of the audience./.
