Uneasy with Khanh Le Pass
Currently, National Highway 27C is the main route connecting the two tourist centers of Nha Trang and Da Lat. However, since its inauguration, this route has often experienced landslides during the rainy and stormy season, especially the Khanh Le Pass section (Nam Khanh Vinh Commune). At the end of 2024, due to prolonged heavy rain, serious landslides occurred on National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass. At that time, there were up to 10 landslides with more than 100,000m3 of mud and soil flowing onto the road surface, damaging many traffic works, guardrails, rescue roads, etc. Relevant units mobilized hundreds of workers and machines to work day and night, but it took more than a week for this route to be opened to one-way traffic.

On November 16, 2025, due to continuous heavy rain, at Khanh Le Pass, a giant rock fell and hit a moving passenger bus, killing 6 people. After that, new landslides continuously appeared on this route, including sections where giant rocks fell and blocked the road, and sections where half of the roadbed collapsed, completely paralyzing traffic. According to preliminary statistics, from November 16 to now, the entire National Highway 27C has 52 landslides, of which 35 locations are completely blocked. Up to now, the maintenance force has cleared the rocks and soil, initially opening one or two lanes at 41 locations; the remaining 11 locations from Km44+410 to Km65+585 are still isolated. The construction unit is continuing to mobilize machinery and human resources to speed up progress and soon restore two-lane traffic.
According to Mr. Le Thuan Doan - Director of Khanh Hoa Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company (road maintenance unit), currently National Highway 27C section through Khanh Le Pass is very seriously damaged, many points have very large landslides, making the repair work very difficult. Due to too many landslides, the unit arranged large specialized vehicles to be the first to clear the road, then clear the way for the next vehicle to move forward. Heavy rains often appear on the pass, slowing down the construction progress. The authorities are giving top priority to clearing National Highway 27C to ensure traffic safety, serve the transportation of goods, tourists and stabilize people's lives after natural disasters.
Strengthening connection between Nha Trang - Da Lat
Although construction units are urgently repairing landslides on National Highway 27C, in the long term, it is necessary to have an additional road to enhance connectivity and shorten travel time between Nha Trang and Da Lat. Therefore, the early completion of investment procedures for the Nha Trang - Da Lat expressway is an extremely important task.

Recently, the Provincial People's Committee has sent a report to the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Finance to clarify the contents of the investment project to build the expressway connecting Nha Trang and Da Lat. According to the report, in 2024, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province and the People's Committee of Lam Dong province have submitted a document to the Prime Minister proposing an investment plan to build the Nha Trang - Da Lat expressway under the public-private partnership method (BOT contract with state capital participation). The project has a scope of research for the entire Nha Trang - Da Lat - Lien Khuong route, with the starting point intersecting with the North - South expressway in the east in Dien Tho commune (Khanh Hoa province), the end point intersecting with the Lien Khuong - Prenn expressway (at the foot of Prenn pass) in Xuan Huong ward, Lam Dong province. The total length of the route is about 99km, of which the Nha Trang - Da Lat section is 80.8km long, the Da Lat - Lien Khuong section is 18.2km long. According to the report, the proposed investment scope of the Nha Trang - Da Lat section is 80.8km long, of which the section passing through Khanh Hoa province is about 44km long, the section passing through Lam Dong province is about 36.8km long. The proposed investment scope has the starting point at Km0+00 junction with the North - South expressway in the east at Dien Tho commune; the end point is at Km80+810, Darahoa intersection, in Lam Vien ward (Lam Dong province).
The project is expected to have a design speed of 80 - 100km/h, invested in one time according to the complete 4-lane highway planning scale. The project has a total land use area of over 627 hectares (Khanh Hoa province 326.54 hectares, Lam Dong province 300.51 hectares). The total investment of the project is over 25,000 billion VND, of which the investor's capital participating in the project is 35%, the state capital participating in the project is 65% (budget capital of the two localities of Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong is about 1,171 billion VND, the central budget capital is about 15,115 billion VND).
Comrade Le Huyen - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that with the unusual weather developments in recent years, landslides have frequently occurred on National Highway 27C, causing traffic disruptions, seriously affecting people's lives and socio-economic development of the two provinces of Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong. Therefore, the construction of the Nha Trang - Da Lat expressway is extremely necessary and urgent to strengthen the connection between Nha Trang and Da Lat. The Provincial People's Committee has proposed the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Construction to soon submit to the Prime Minister for approval to allow the investment implementation of this project before 2030; approve the investment plan in the form of public-private partnership, BOT contract to submit to the National Assembly for approval of the investment policy. At the same time, assign the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee as the competent authority to implement the Nha Trang - Da Lat Expressway Project.
The Nha Trang - Da Lat expressway will contribute to effectively promoting the infrastructure projects that have been and are being implemented, connecting important economic centers and seaports, meeting the increasing transportation demand. Thereby, creating new development space, growth momentum and strategic development space for the Central Highlands and South Central Coast on the basis of a synchronous and modern technical and social infrastructure system. The project is also of great significance in ensuring national defense and security, enhancing the competitiveness of the economy, contributing to the successful implementation of the country's socio-economic development goals and tasks.
