On November 15, thousands of former teachers and students returned to Foreign Trade University (FTU) to attend the ceremony celebrating the school's 65th anniversary.

Foreign Trade University was established in 1960, is the first university in the country to provide intensive training for university and postgraduate staff in the field of economics and international business.

The school's predecessor was a department in the Faculty of International Relations, directly managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but located at the University of Economics and Finance. In the Faculty of International Relations, there were two departments: the Department of Diplomacy and the Department of Foreign Trade. The first course of the Department of Foreign Trade was enrolled in the 1960-1961 school year with 42 students.

In 1963, according to the Prime Minister's decision, the Faculty of International Relations separated from the University of Economics and Finance to establish the School of Diplomacy and Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 1967, at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the Prime Minister decided to split the Diplomatic Cadre School - Foreign Trade into two schools: the Diplomatic School under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Foreign Trade University under the Ministry of Foreign Trade (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade). The official name of the Foreign Trade University dates back to this time.

In 1984, Foreign Trade University was transferred from the Ministry of Foreign Trade to the Ministry of Universities and Vocational Colleges (now the Ministry of Education and Training).

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thu Huong - Principal of Foreign Trade University - expressed her emotion when welcoming teachers and generations of alumni back to attend the program celebrating the 65th anniversary of the school's founding.

For the Foreign Trade brand to be recognized by society as it is today, the school is always deeply aware that it is the result of persistent efforts through many generations of teachers and students, who have overcome many difficulties and challenges to forge the mettle, spirit and "quality" of Foreign Trade.

Ms. Huong hopes that in the coming time, the school will continue to receive trust and support on the journey to realize the aspiration of making Foreign Trade University one of the leading universities in Asia.

The school will be a place that respects academic freedom, encourages creative research, develops training models associated with critical thinking and the ability to master context, overcomes prejudices about educational values, nurtures dreams and ambitions, and together aims for positive impact and sustainable development.
