In the final of the Gwangju Billiards World Cup 2025 (held in Korea) which ended on November 10, the home player Cho Myung-woo won convincingly against veteran Marco Zanetti (Italy). Thereby, the Korean prodigy won the Billiards World Cup championship for the third time in his career, and the second time in 2025.
Cho Myung-woo dethrones Dick Jaspers
With his good form and continuous progress in recent tournaments, Cho Myung-woo has officially taken the No. 1 position from the veteran Dutch player - Dick Jaspers. On the latest UMB rankings (the version that only counts points from the World Cup billiards and World Championship stages), the Korean prodigy leads with 392 points. Before the 2025 Gwangju Billiards World Cup, the 1998-born player was in the No. 2 position.
Cho Myung-woo won his second World Cup billiards title in 2025. Previously, the Korean prodigy won in Porto, Portugal in July.

Dick Jaspers dropped to 2nd place with 386 points. 3rd and 4th places remained unchanged, respectively belonging to Eddy Merckx (348 points) and Tasdemir Tayfun (322 points). Marco Zanetti reached the final of the most recent tournament, so he was awarded points and moved up 1 place in the rankings, from 6th to 5th, with 306 points.
Tran Quyet Chien dropped 1 rank
Tran Quyet Chien was eliminated early in the Gwangju Billiards World Cup 2025, deducted 18 points. Vietnam's No. 1 player currently has 296 points, falling from 5th to 6th in the world . Meanwhile, Frederic Caudron continues to make progress on the rankings. The Belgian billiards genius now has 281 points and has risen to 7th (previously 9th), closing in on Quyet Chien.
Recently, Tran Quyet Chien has not been in good form in world tournaments.

The remaining players in the top 14 (the group of players who are given special permission to participate in the main round of the World Cup billiards) include: Martin Horn (ranked 8th), Tran Thanh Luc (ranked 9th), Sameh Sidhom (ranked 10th), Jeremy Bury (ranked 11th), Heo Jung-han (ranked 12th), Glenn Hofman (ranked 13th), Kim Haeng-jik (ranked 14th).
Notably, Tran Thanh Luc, although also stopping early at the Gwangju Billiards World Cup 2025, still increased 2 places (from 11th to 9th, currently with 223 points), because the players ranked above had many points deducted.

Bao Phuong Vinh was eliminated in the fourth qualifying round, dropping 5 places (from 13th to 18th). Chiem Hong Thai remained at 19th place on the UMB rankings.
Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu is currently ranked 28th. The two best Vietnamese players at the Gwangju Billiards World Cup 2025 are Dao Van Ly and Nguyen Chi Long, both of whom have improved their rankings in the round of 16. Van Ly moved from 34th to 30th. Chi Long moved from 119th to 68th.
