Tran Quyet Chien quickly ended his journey at the Gwangju Billiards World Cup.
Tran Quyet Chien will start playing today, November 7, when he is given a special invitation to the final round (32 players) of the Gwangju Billiards World Cup 2025. Vietnam's No. 1 player is in a group with Antwerp World Cup champion Martin Horn (Germany), Choi Wan-young (Korea), and Hugo Patino (USA).
In this group, Tran Quyet Chien is considered to be only afraid of Martin Horn, who is in good form recently. In the last two meetings, the Vietnamese player was defeated by the German player. With the remaining two opponents being Choi Wang-young and Patino, Quyet Chien is considered to be much higher.

However, the Ha Tinh native was eliminated early in the round of 32 with a surprising result. Vietnam's No. 1 3-cushion carom billiards player was eliminated with a record of 3 consecutive losses. In the first match of Group C, Quyet Chien lost to Patino 21-40 after 20 shots. In the second match, the Vietnamese player lost 23-40 to Choi Wan-young (18 shots).
After the first two rounds, Tran Quyet Chien's fate was decided, as he was eliminated early. In the rematch with Martin Horn in the final round of Group C, the Vietnamese player lost quickly 5-40, after only 12 rounds.
Thanh Tu and Thanh Luc also said goodbye to the tournament.
Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu also stopped early in the round of 32, after the second round ended. The current national champion of Vietnam received 2 defeats, respectively against Daniel Morales (17-40) and Dick Jaspers (32-40).
The champion of the first World Cup billiards stage in 2025 (in Bogota - Colombia) Tran Thanh Luc also did not play well. Thanh Luc was also eliminated after losing to Dao Van Ly (36-40) and Tolgahan Kiraz (30-40).
Notably, Group F has 3 Vietnamese players: Dao Van Ly, Tran Thanh Luc and Nguyen Chi Long. Since each group selects the top 2 players to advance to the round of 16, there is sure to be at least 1 Vietnamese player going forward.
Chiem Hong Thai has a record of 1 draw (40-40 with Sameh Sidhom), 1 loss (33-40 with Heo Jung-han) after 2 matches. The player born in 1999 still has a chance to continue if he plays well in the last match against Peter Ceulemans (Belgium), and waits for the result of the remaining match of Group H (between Heo Jung-han and Sidhom).
The Gwangju Billiards World Cup 2025 will take place from November 7, bringing together the 32 best players, divided equally into 8 groups. The players will compete in a round robin to calculate points and rank. The top two players in each group will advance to the knockout round (16 players).
