Shining on a new front

In the hearts of every veteran who fought to defend the Fatherland, "honor is the most sacred and precious thing," so they must live meaningful lives. Therefore, they are not only indomitable and resilient in combat but also shine on a new front - the front of building and developing their homeland.

Shining on a new front

The economic model of veteran Nguyen Dinh Tiep in Trung Chinh commune generates high income.

To live up to the name of a soldier of Uncle Ho's army, every veteran and association member recognizes that learning from and following the example of Uncle Ho must be done regularly and continuously, through vibrant emulation movements and concrete actions linked to daily life. For veteran Bui Duc Thuan, Party branch secretary and head of the Front Committee of Dong Thinh village, Hoang Loc commune, after more than 30 years of dedication, he has always devoted all his heart and mind to the work of the village. "It's not just the duty of a veteran or a Party branch secretary, but also a debt of gratitude to the land that gave birth to and nurtured me," Mr. Thuan confided.

Setting a good example to motivate and lead others is the most effective approach. Because if the people trust you, even the most difficult tasks can be accomplished; if they lose faith, even small things cannot be done. With this mindset, Mr. Thuan, along with the Party branch and the village's Front Committee, leveraged government support and harnessed the collective strength of the people to mobilize contributions for the construction of a cultural center, roads, sports fields, the renovation of the village pond, and the construction of a drainage system, enabling Dong Thinh village to become a model new rural village in 2022.

Having dedicated many years to village work, the most valuable thing for Mr. Bui Duc Thuan is the trust and responsibility he has been given by the people. This "relationship" has lasted over 30 years, and despite holding various positions such as village head, village Party branch secretary, and head of the village's Fatherland Front committee, he has always been enthusiastic and wholeheartedly committed to the common good.

For veteran Nguyen Dinh Tiep from Trung Chinh commune, learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh's example must be demonstrated through concrete actions and practical deeds. Therefore, he always maintains the enthusiasm of a soldier to strive for success, becoming a leading example in local economic development. Since 2000, veteran Nguyen Dinh Tiep and his family have leased 4 hectares of low-yield rice land from the commune to implement a fish-rice farming model, combined with raising livestock and poultry... After 5 years of successful livestock farming, veteran Nguyen Dinh Tiep borrowed a large amount of capital to reinvest in the farm for high-tech agricultural production.

After learning from experiences in many places, war veteran Nguyen Dinh Tiep replanned his fish ponds to raise various types of fish. Utilizing the land around the pond banks, he planted thousands of Siamese coconut trees and other fruit trees. On the remaining land, he built a breeding area for sows and pigs, and installed a cooling system, a biogas digester, and a wastewater treatment tank to ensure environmental hygiene. Besides pig farming, war veteran Nguyen Dinh Tiep and his family also raise a variety of chickens, ducks, and goats for breeding. To ensure the animals grow and develop well, he hired a veterinarian to monitor and care for the livestock according to proper technical procedures. Thanks to this, war veteran Nguyen Dinh Tiep's farm is very efficient, generating billions of dong in income each year.

To ensure that the study and emulation of President Ho Chi Minh's teachings are deeply ingrained and widely disseminated in each association branch and among each member, the branches have developed programs and plans for implementation. Annually, each branch registers specific actions following President Ho Chi Minh's example, linked to local emulation movements, creating positive changes in the awareness and actions of cadres and members. In particular, the "Veterans Helping Each Other Reduce Poverty and Excel in Economic Activities" movement has fostered camaraderie, solidarity, and a strong will to overcome difficulties and strive for success among veterans. As a result, the number of well-off and wealthy veterans in the province has increased, while the number of poor veterans has decreased. Over the past five years, 3,132 veteran households have escaped poverty, and 2,746 veteran households have become well-off or wealthy, thus reducing the percentage of poor veteran households in the province to 1.88%, and increasing the percentage of well-off and wealthy veteran households to 60.14%.

Following President Ho Chi Minh's teaching, "Cultivating a revolutionary generation for future generations is a very important and necessary task," the Provincial Veterans Association, in coordination with the Provincial Youth Union, has implemented a joint program titled "Strengthening the cultivation of revolutionary ideals, accompanying young people in establishing themselves and their careers, and spearheading the construction and protection of the Fatherland." Over the past five years, veterans' associations at all levels have collaborated with local youth unions to organize 1,522 traditional talks, with 288,145 participants including youth union members, students, and university students. Through their knowledge, experience, and practical insights, and through specific stories, the veterans have diligently nurtured revolutionary ideals, helping young people better understand history through real-life accounts, thereby arousing national pride and a sense of responsibility among the youth towards the country.

The movement to follow President Ho Chi Minh's teachings on practicing thrift has also been widely implemented throughout the province. Accordingly, each official and member saves 2,000 VND/month (24,000 VND/year) to contribute to the fund for building "Comradeship Houses" for poor members. From this fund, over the past 5 years, the entire province has built and renovated 486 houses, with a total support amount of over 23 billion VND and nearly 30,000 days of labor contributed by members.

With many outstanding contributions to the implementation of emulation movements from the provincial to the grassroots level, the cadres and members of the Veterans Association of Thanh Hoa have affirmed that, on any front, they are always shining examples for future generations to learn from and follow, worthy of the tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers".
