According to SGGP reporters on the morning of November 10, the Back Beach area, from Phan Chu Trinh Street to Paradise Tourist Area (about 3km long), was filled with ocean trash.

Mr. Phan Xuan Huan, General Director of Vung Tau Urban Construction and Environmental Services Joint Stock Company (VESCO), said that November is usually the end of the ocean trash season, but there has never been a year at the end of the season when the amount of ocean trash poured into Bai Sau beach is as much as this year, stretching along 3km of beach with a width of up to 4-5m in some places.

The amount of ocean waste includes all kinds of things from water hyacinth, dry firewood, styrofoam boxes, furniture, cushions, nylon bags, plastic items... even electronic waste.
Mr. Phan Xuan Huan added that the main cause is the monsoon and tides, especially after heavy rains, the garbage flows into the sea from large rivers. These garbage sources can come from the Dong Nai - Saigon river system, Tien river, Hau river and partly from mangrove forests.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (living on Vo Thi Sau Street, Vung Tau Ward) said: "For nearly a month now, the amount of garbage drifting to the shore of Vung Tau has decreased, but this morning when I went swimming, I was very surprised because the amount of garbage dumped on the beach was too much. Most of it was still decomposed water hyacinth, giving off a foul smell. To swim in the sea, I had to cross 5 meters of garbage to get to the beach, to find a clean place to swim."

By the morning of November 10, due to the large and dense amount of garbage washed ashore, in addition to the environmental sanitation workers, VESCO Company had to mobilize more vehicles and machines, and even had to rent additional equipment from outside the company to collect and handle it promptly.
As of 10 a.m. on November 10, the company had collected about 50 tons of garbage and had only cleaned a part of the beach. It is expected that both workers and machines will have to work continuously for 2 days to collect all of it. However, the worrying thing is that ocean garbage continues to pour onto the beach, making collection and treatment difficult.

Every year, beaches in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City have to endure 2-3 waves of ocean trash. Previously, the amount of ocean trash poured in was small and only lasted 5-7 days/wave. But in the past 3-4 years, ocean trash has flooded the eastern seas of Ho Chi Minh City more and more and lasted continuously for many months (usually from May to November).
