Quynh Son Village (Lang Son) and Lo Lo Chai Village (Tuyen Quang) are the two latest representatives of Vietnam to be honored by the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) as " The World's Best Tourist Villages 2025".

After evaluating more than 270 applications from 65 countries, UN Tourism recognized the rich and outstanding cultural and natural resources and commitments to sustainable tourism development of Quynh Son and Lo Lo Chai.

Compared to Lo Lo Chai, Quynh Son is still a more "mysterious" village to many tourists. Since the end of October, the keyword "Quynh Son village" has attracted attention in tour groups, making tourists curious to search for information.

Where is Quynh Son village?

Quynh Son community tourism village is located in the center of Bac Son valley (Bac Son commune, Lang Son), about 180km from the center of Hanoi , equivalent to 3.5-4 hours by car.

This is the first community tourism village in Lang Son province, established and put into operation since 2010. The village has a convenient location, located near National Highway 1B - the route connecting Lang Son province with Thai Nguyen.

Quynh Son belongs to the special national relic site of Bac Son Uprising and is located in the UNESCO global geopark of Lang Son. This place possesses beautiful natural landscapes, strong cultural identity, especially the Tay cultural space which is preserved and promoted in the daily life of the people.

The village is attracting visitors.

Leisurely watching the stilt house

The village has more than 400 traditional stilt houses, many of which are hundreds of years old and have been preserved by 3-4 generations.

Interestingly, the entire stilt house faces south, with its back against the towering mountain range, and its roof covered with yin-yang tiles. The Tay people believe that a house facing south will bring the family more vitality, luck and prosperity.

Meanwhile, traditional yin-yang tiles help keep the house cool in summer and warm in winter.

It is the unity and originality in space, architecture, people and culture that helped Quynh Son make a strong impression on the international council.

A traditional stilt house was renovated to become a homestay to welcome guests.

Visitors can leisurely walk around the village, admire the simple, peaceful houses, and chat with the extremely friendly and hospitable people. Each house has its own mark on the porch, door or wooden wall, just like the personality of each homeowner.

In the evening, visitors can participate in performances of Then singing, Tinh lute, and campfire with the locals.

Welcome the golden season

Harvest season here takes place in late July and November every year. At that time, the entire flat valley is covered in the golden color of ripe rice, surrounded by limestone mountains. The Thuong River winds like a silk ribbon across each field.

Tourists should come to Quynh Son village in November to participate in the Golden Harvest Festival in Bac Son. At the festival, there are many interesting activities such as watching the traditional rice harvesting competition, pounding rice, wrapping black banh chung...

People and tourists enjoy watching people compete in harvesting rice.

Currently, in Quynh Son, some homestay households have SUP boat rental services for tourists to paddle on the river, watching the golden season in a new way. This place is also an attractive paragliding spot for many pilots.

In particular, if you climb up Na Lay mountain, about 600m above sea level, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the golden Bac Son rice valley, with the peaceful stilt houses of the locals looming.

Visit the tile making village

Just a few minutes away from Quynh Son village, visitors can visit the craft village that produces yin-yang tiles - the type of tiles that people have used to roof their stilt houses for generations.

Here, visitors learn about the 8 steps to create tiles that help keep the house "cool in summer and warm in winter", from selecting soil, filtering, to composting, kneading, shaping, and firing in a wood kiln. The tiles are naturally dried and then put into the kiln continuously for 23-25 days.

Each tile carries the Tay people's yin-yang philosophy: one face up, one face down - symbolizing the harmony of heaven and earth.

Delicious cuisine

The cuisine of the Tay people in Quynh Son is quite attractive with black sticky rice cake, mountain ginger sausage, mugwort cake, khau nhuc, purple sticky rice, roast duck, Bac Son yellow tangerines...

The main ingredient that makes the black banh chung unique is the ash of sticky rice straw. Delicious golden sticky rice is soaked in special ash water to create the black color and fragrance. The black banh chung is fragrant, sticky, and does not make you feel hot when eaten.

At the end of the year, the village often has tangerine as a dessert. This type of tangerine is often grown in mountain crevices, has a thin skin, and a beautiful golden yellow color. When peeled, the tangerine peel gives off a very distinctive scent, clinging to the diner's hands. The tangerine is not too sweet but has a slightly sour, refreshing taste.

The yellow tangerines have a special aroma.

Where to stay when coming to Quynh Son?

Currently, in Quynh Son village, there are 9 homestays owned by local Tay families. Visitors can stay in communal rooms for 100,000-200,000 VND/night or rent private rooms.

The homestays all maintain traditional stilt houses. Visitors will live with local people, participate in farming and cooking activities... This is also the highlight that helps the village meet the criteria to become "The best tourist village in the world in 2025".

Tourists should note that there are no high-end resorts in the village. Local people and authorities are continuing to improve tourism services, while preserving the landscape, architecture and culture.

Regarding transportation, visitors can take a private car or bus from Hanoi to the center of Bac Son commune, then take a motorbike taxi to Quynh Son village. Currently, there are a few bus companies that provide bus routes from Hanoi directly to Quynh Son village.

The whole village in Tuyen Quang burst into joy when it became the World's Best Tourist Village 2025. Lo Lo Chai Village (Tuyen Quang) has just been recognized by the United Nations Tourism Organization as "The World's Best Tourist Village 2025". The people here are extremely happy and excited.
