Nga Bay is a city in Hau Giang province (old), on the west side of Hau river. With an area of over 78km2, this administrative unit is considered the economic center in the northeast of Hau Giang province (old).
This city has a very special geographical location as it is the intersection of 7 rivers (Cai Con, Quan Lo Phung Hiep, Lai Hieu, Mang Ca, Muong Lo, Xeo Dong and Xeo Mon). These 7 rivers form an important waterway network, helping to connect the provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.

Nga Bay is located on Highway 1, between the center of Can Tho city and Soc Trang city (old) with an equal distance, about 30km. This is also the starting point of the Quan Lo - Phung Hiep route connecting Can Tho and Ca Mau.

Nga Bay Market has a river and road frontage, with more than 200 businesses, selling a variety of products, mainly agricultural products and general goods. Here, visitors will experience not only shopping, visiting the stalls, but also have the opportunity to explore dishes with rich flavors of the Southwest region.

The system of embankments, piers, and model boats were invested by the locality at the floating market restoration point - the starting point of river tours in the garden area. The above works put into use contribute to urban beautification, creating landscape highlights, serving the entertainment needs of residents and tourists.

Gia Lam Co Tu Pagoda is over 2,300 square meters wide, located next to Highway 1, the section passing through Nga Bay city. It was built in 1940, with bold Indian architecture. Taking over nearly 40 years ago, Venerable Thich Hue Sanh (77 years old) is the only monk in the pagoda.

There are nearly 180 statues here, however, the one that contributes to the temple's reputation is the statue of the Red Hare horse, about 3 meters high and more than 2 meters long. The cost of casting the horse statue was donated by a woman in 1963 with 1 million VND (at that time, it was worth about 50 taels of gold).
Until now, more than 60 years, the color of the statue is still bright and beautiful even though it has never been repaired, and no one dares to arbitrarily change the position of the statue.

Garden tourism in Nga Bay must include Thien An strawberry garden, 5 hectares wide, along Cai Con river. Mr. Le Minh Tam (67 years old, garden owner) said that every month he welcomes 500-1,000 visitors to visit and enjoy the fruits.

After the merger, Nga Bay city became Dai Thanh and Nga Bay wards of Can Tho city.
