Attendees included representatives from National Paralympic Committees, International Federations, Recognized Federations, Regional Organisations, International Para -Sport Organisations and IPC staff. The focus of this year’s discussions was on the implementation of the IPC 2025 Classification Code and International Standards, with sessions designed to promote both broad participation and professional collaboration.

The international Paralympic community sets global standards.
IPC Classification Monitoring and Compliance Committee Chair Jan Burns praised the energy and unity of the Paralympic movement: "With the publication of the new IPC Classification Code, this is a pivotal moment for the industry. Stakeholders have been preparing for implementation. The more than 150 delegates attending showed great enthusiasm, collaboration and knowledge exchange."
Delegates were updated on the implementation of the new Codes and Standards and considered common challenges and opportunities, discussing topics such as developing strong national classification systems, strengthening leadership structures in international organizations and improving governance practices across the classification sector. The conference also focused on education , awareness raising and innovation. Sessions explored the role of communication and storytelling, translating research into practice, and updating medical guidelines on qualifying defects and conditions, as well as issues of integrity and investigation.
In addition, Safe Sport and Athlete Health were also discussed. Delegates reviewed annual classification data, discussed upcoming regulatory updates and exchanged feedback through open consultations. Sessions also addressed appeals processes, athlete engagement and innovative national and regional classification models.
Commenting on the event, IPC Classification Committee Chair Michael Hutchinson said: “This year’s meeting was very productive and fostered thoughtful dialogue. In the process of implementing the new Classification Code, it was clear that our community shares a strong sense of collective responsibility. It was a real pleasure to welcome everyone to the IPC Base, and on behalf of the IPC team, I would like to thank all attendees for their contributions.”
The meeting brought together classification experts from National Paralympic Committees around the world , including Great Britain Paralympics, who attended. Sport Excel UK, a member of Great Britain Paralympics, oversees the eligibility and classification of all British athletes with intellectual disability, Down syndrome and autism in all sports in the UK.
