Due to the impact of storm No. 14, in Can Tho City, there are many places with moderate rain, some places with heavy rain to very heavy rain and the rains in the coming time with tropical depressions causing rain. Therefore, it is necessary to proactively protect the aquaculture area in the city, which has stocked more than 95,520 hectares, of which shrimp farming area is 50,348 hectares, fish farming area is more than 42,000 hectares and other aquatic products area is more than 3,000 hectares, to avoid the impact of the rains.

Aquaculture households, farms, and businesses, especially brackish water shrimp farming, need to regularly check their ponds and shrimp during storms.
Can Tho City Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance recommends that aquaculture households, farms, and aquaculture enterprises must re-check the aeration system and electrical system because heavy rain and storms can easily cause electrical short circuits and explosions; reinforce and protect the cage/raft system from natural disasters; reinforce the raft frame, increase the number of anchor ropes, use anchors with appropriate weight; avoid letting the raft drift or collide. For cage/raft farming, lower the buoyancy of the cage/raft to reduce the risk of capsizing due to strong winds and big waves. When there is a risk of large floods or strong currents, move the cage/raft to a safe location, avoid placing the raft near landslides, whirlpools or discharge gates.
Aquaculture households, farms, and businesses need to regularly check and re-evaluate the current status of cages/rafts, mooring systems, and the safety of people and property; proactively harvest aquatic products when they reach commercial size; relocate to safe water areas when there are storms; arrange for people to be on duty and monitor information during periods of storm risk.
After storms, farmers need to proactively strengthen pond management and care as follows: Drain surface water to reduce the amount of rainwater in the pond, run water fans and aerators to limit water stratification; check and treat environmental factors in ponds, cages/rafts to ensure environmental factors are within allowable limits. Increase resistance for farmed aquatic products, regularly monitor the health of farmed aquatic products to have timely treatment measures; have solutions to treat the water environment after storms and floods (if polluted).
