Quy Luong protects forests and improves forestry economic efficiency

Bamboo forests in Mang village, Quy Luong commune are being intensively restored.

Mang village head Nguyen Van Chuyen shared: The village has more than 60 hectares of production forest. The families in the village are given favorable conditions by the Commune People's Committee and Ba Thuoc Forest Protection Department, allocated land and forest to protect and develop the forestry economy . At the same time, the commune provides guidance on planting, care and forest protection techniques. Currently, the village has planted more than 45 hectares of production forest, mainly bamboo, acacia, mahogany, etc.

Mang village has 20 hectares of bamboo forest that has been intensively cultivated and restored. When instructed by the commune People's Committee officials, the villagers have proactively fertilized and cared for the bamboo forest. As a result, the bamboo forest grows well, produces early and abundant bamboo shoots, large and straight trees, long shoots, and gives higher productivity and income than before. Every month, representatives of the Mang village management board, forest owners, representatives of the commune People's Committee, together with the forest rangers working in the area regularly patrol the forest to promptly detect, prevent, and handle violations of the law on forest protection. The entire forest area in the village is protected, always growing green and lush, without forest fires or illegal logging. Many households in the village have a stable source of income from forest economic development...

Vice Chairman of Quy Luong Commune People's Committee Truong Van Vinh said: "The commune has 9,284.74 hectares of forest and forestry land, of which 6,223 hectares are natural forests, the remaining area is planted production forests. To protect the forest from the root, the commune has issued documents to effectively implement Directive No. 13-CT/TW dated January 12, 2017 of the Secretariat on strengthening the leadership of the Party in forest management, protection and development. At the same time, review and supplement the forest protection and fire prevention and fighting plan according to the "4 on-site" motto; develop a forest fire fighting plan, a forest fire fighting map to proactively respond to forest fire situations. Build forest protection teams in villages and hamlets, especially focusing on key areas at risk of losing forest security. Along with socializing forest protection work, the commune proactively deploys solutions to improve production efficiency, forest use, attract and create more jobs work, increase income for people working in forestry, protect the ecological environment. The focus is on intensive cultivation, restoration of bamboo forests, planting forests with high-quality forestry trees, and tissue-cultured trees. In nearly 11 months of 2025, the commune has planted new and replanted forests that have been exploited according to regulations on more than 180 hectares.

To change people's awareness and practices in planting and caring for bamboo forests, the Commune People's Committee has coordinated with relevant agencies to go to villages and hamlets to disseminate and propagate policies to support the development of intensive bamboo cultivation areas; provide training on techniques for caring for and fertilizing bamboo forests; and connect with businesses and forest product processing factories to purchase bamboo when it is time to harvest so that people can confidently cultivate bamboo forests.

As a result, by November 2025, the commune had over 1,500 hectares of bamboo forest, of which 1,317 hectares had been intensively cultivated and restored. Bamboo trees were fertilized, the bamboo shoot growth coefficient increased by 1.5 times, the bamboo shoots were larger and the internodes were longer, and the value of bamboo trees was increased. The effectiveness of the policy of developing intensive bamboo areas has helped raise awareness of local authorities and people in management and forest protection associated with forestry economic development.

Currently, Quy Luong commune is proactively implementing a number of solutions such as strengthening State management of forest protection and development; reviewing and evaluating the current status of bamboo processing facilities in the area to find solutions to improve the efficiency of production and trading of bamboo products; committing not to purchase or consume young bamboo; building cooperative models for bamboo production and trading to create large enough concentrated raw material areas and act as a bridge to call for businesses to invest capital, science and technology in intensive cultivation, and develop sustainable and effective bamboo forests. Thanks to that, forest security in the commune is maintained, no forest fires or illegal deforestation occur. Forest protection work is actively participated by households, groups of households and representatives of village communities. The area of depleted natural forests has been restored and developed stably. The forests are cared for, protected, grow and develop well, not only promoting their protective function but also creating a source of water for irrigation works. By proactively protecting and planting forests to cover bare hills, people in Quy Luong commune have a sustainable source of livelihood, contributing to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, improving living standards, and promoting the new rural construction program in the region.
