After becoming a Vietnamese citizen at the end of October, Do Hoang Hen was eager to wear the national team jersey. However, in the national team's training camp before the FIFA Days in November, this naturalized player was not included as he was not in coach Kim Sang Sik's plans.
The reason is that Hoang Hen can only play for the Vietnamese national team in early 2026, according to the regulations of the International Football Federation (FIFA).
When asked if he was sad about not being called up to the Vietnamese national team, Do Hoang Hen just smiled.
"Currently, I haven't been called up to the national team, but when coach Kim Sang Sik summons me, I will still be ready," Do Hoang Hen said in an interview on the evening of November 10th.
In contrast to Do Hoang Hen, his close friend Nguyen Xuan Son was called up to the Vietnamese national team after recovering from injury following nearly a year of absence.
Xuan Son will join his 22 teammates in preparing for the match against Laos in the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, which will take place on November 19th.
Do Hoang Hen said: "Xuan Son is very happy for me. He is very pleased that I have Vietnamese citizenship because I have been waiting for this for so long."
Do Hoang Hen is striving to regain his top form while playing for Hanoi FC.
In just five matches, he contributed two goals and one assist, helping the capital city team improve their position in the V-League 2025-2026 standings.
Unless something changes, Do Hoang Hen will join the Vietnamese national team along with Nguyen Xuan Son in the March 2026 training camp to prepare for the crucial match against Malaysia.
