In San Lung village, Bat Xat commune, Mr. Lo Sanh Din's family has many years of experience raising native black pigs. Mr. Din shared: "Full vaccination helps keep the pigs healthy, reduces the risk of disease, and allows them to grow quickly. As a result, the family sells hundreds of pigs for meat each year, earning a much better income than before."

Bat Xat commune currently has a total herd of over 3,100 buffaloes and cows, over 7,500 pigs, nearly 2,500 dogs, and more than 11,000 poultry. The commune's People's Committee has coordinated with the Bat Xat Regional Veterinary Station to vaccinate against diseases such as hemorrhagic septicemia, foot-and-mouth disease, cholera, rabies, and avian influenza.
Vaccination is an effective solution for protecting livestock. We assign veterinary officers to each village, keeping track of the number of livestock and poultry to ensure that vaccinations are administered correctly and completely, without missing any.

To improve effectiveness, the commune authorities, in coordination with specialized agencies, are stepping up propaganda efforts to help people understand the benefits of vaccinating their livestock against diseases, thereby encouraging them to proactively cooperate with veterinary officers to follow the correct technical procedures.
To date, Bat Xat commune has completed over 95% of its vaccination plan and is continuing to implement supplementary vaccinations, striving to complete the entire plan before November 30, 2025.
Muong Khuong commune currently has over 10,000 head of livestock and more than 68,000 head of poultry. This year's vaccination campaign was implemented early and effectively, so the commune has already exceeded the set plan by 13%.
Mr. Pham Duc Trung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Khuong commune, said: "Given the characteristics of being a mountainous commune with a cold climate and a long winter, the locality pays special attention to vaccination, considering it the most proactive and effective disease prevention measure to protect livestock."

The commune directed specialized departments and units to stay close to the grassroots, implement mass vaccination, prioritizing areas with concentrated livestock farming, and support people in administering supplementary vaccinations for newly born or newly imported livestock.
In Hanh Phuc commune, the vaccination of livestock is also being implemented vigorously. To date, the commune has completed 94% of the second vaccination plan.
To ensure the effectiveness of the vaccination program, the local authorities instructed veterinary officers to closely coordinate with village heads to accurately survey and count the number of livestock in each household, ensuring that the correct animals are vaccinated at the right time and with the correct type of vaccine. At the same time, the commune intensified public awareness campaigns through the public address system, guiding people to properly care for, feed, and maintain hygiene in livestock pens, helping animals recover quickly, improve their resistance, and minimize the risk of disease outbreaks.

According to the plan, the agricultural sector will implement two main vaccination campaigns each year, while also organizing supplementary vaccinations for livestock and poultry that have not been vaccinated, are reaching the age for vaccination, or whose protective immunity has expired. In addition, when an outbreak occurs, specialized agencies will conduct emergency vaccinations to prevent the disease from spreading widely.
According to information from the Provincial Department of Crop Production, Plant Protection, and Livestock, Veterinary, and Fisheries, since the beginning of the year, several dangerous infectious diseases such as African swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease, and rabies have appeared in many localities, causing significant losses to livestock farmers. In addition, the weather is in a transitional period, with a sharp drop in temperature, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks in livestock.
To ensure the effectiveness of livestock and poultry vaccination, the Provincial Department of Crop Production, Plant Protection, and Livestock, Veterinary Medicine, and Fisheries has coordinated with local authorities to promote awareness and enhance the responsibility of local governments and livestock farmers in carrying out vaccinations fully and according to proper procedures.

To date, the province has administered over 1.83 million doses of vaccines to livestock, reaching nearly 80% of the plan. This includes 126,000 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine for buffaloes and cattle; over 84,000 doses of hemorrhagic septicemia vaccine for buffaloes and cattle; nearly 200,000 doses of swine cholera, swine hemorrhagic septicemia, and swine paratyphoid vaccine; over 116,000 doses of rabies vaccine; over 1.25 million doses of avian influenza vaccine; and nearly 50,000 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine for pigs.
In addition to vaccines subsidized by the government, many livestock farmers proactively invest in additional vaccinations such as those against African swine fever and lumpy skin disease, contributing to improved immunity and more comprehensive protection for their livestock.

Along with vaccination efforts, specialized agencies have provided 18,182 liters of chemicals to localities to implement the Month of Sanitation, Disinfection, and Sterilization, aiming to prevent and control diseases in general and avian influenza in particular, ensuring a safe breeding environment and reducing the risk of disease spread.
Thanks to the proactive and decisive leadership of all levels and sectors, and the enthusiastic response of the people, the vaccination program for livestock in the province is being implemented effectively. This is an important solution contributing to protecting livestock, stabilizing production, and aiming towards the goal of safe and sustainable agricultural development in Lao Cai province.
