Tourists experience paragliding to see the golden season in Hong Thai commune
From quantity to quality
When humans and nature are in a harmonious relationship, green tourism is no longer an environmental concept but becomes an inevitable trend. In the Vietnam Tourism System Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2045, the Government clearly defines the goal: "By 2030, tourism will truly become a spearhead economic sector, developing towards green growth". That spirit is concretized in the Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy to 2030 with the orientation of "developing sustainable and inclusive tourism, on the basis of green growth; managing and effectively using natural resources, protecting the environment and biodiversity; proactively adapting to climate change".
Tuyen Quang is a land possessing a system of majestic and poetic natural landscapes and diverse cultural heritages. To concretize the Central Government's orientation and at the same time promote the potential and strengths of the locality, the province has chosen a "green channel" for tourism. In the resolutions and plans for socio-economic development of the province, green and sustainable factors are always identified as the focus. In particular, the Plan for implementing the Tourism System Planning for the period 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2045, has emphasized "developing a green economy, in which green tourism is the mainstay", linking growth with environmental protection, prioritizing the application of science - technology and innovation.
The strong policies of the Government and the province show a strong shift in tourism from “quantity” to “quality”, from resource exploitation to resource conservation and enrichment, creating a legal framework, and at the same time being the “key” to open a new door for tourism in Tuyen Quang. From this orientation, a series of green economic models at the grassroots level have been activated, becoming a new driving force for the community.
When traveling "wearing green"
After the merger, Tuyen Quang possesses great potential for ecotourism and community tourism. In particular, the Dong Van Stone Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark is a rare treasure of landscape and heritage, where the Mong, Dao, Nung, Lo Lo, Pu Peo ethnic groups still preserve unique cultural values. Along with that, from the Na Hang Ecotourism Area -
Lam Binh to the villages along Lo River, Gam River, the vast old forests... create a valuable foundation for developing experiential tourism, discovery and ecological resorts.
One of the highlights is the H'Mong Village Resort (Lung Tam Commune). This resort aims to take culture and natural landscape as core elements in addition to high-class resort services. A series of bungalows in the middle of the forest simulate the residential architecture of the Mong people along with experiences of indigenous knowledge. This is one of the first seven establishments in Vietnam to receive the VITA GREEN Green Tourism label and the ASEAN Green Hotel and the best Green Hotel in Vietnam. This model creates jobs for more than 70 workers, with a revenue of more than 20 billion VND/year, a vivid proof that when heritage is properly exploited, it will become a truly sustainable economic resource.

Provincial Tourism Association surveyed and built a tourist route to explore bamboo forests on the Stone Plateau.
In Hong Thai commune, which is considered the “highland muse” of Tuyen Quang, nature and culture blend together to create a unique attraction. Terraced fields, white clouds, cool climate and the rustic lifestyle of the Dao Tien people have turned this place into an ideal destination for green tourism. The commune currently has 16 accommodation establishments, welcoming tens of thousands of visitors each year. Notably, in Khau Trang village, traditional stilt houses have been renovated into homestays, still retaining their native features.
Currently, the whole province has 54 community cultural tourism villages, of which 9 villages have achieved OCOP 3-4 stars, becoming a model of both heritage conservation and green tourism development. Many prominent tourist destinations such as Panhous (Thong Nguyen), Na Tong (Thuong Lam), Lo Lo Chai (Lung Cu), Nam Dam (Quan Ba) have won domestic and international awards, all associated with green tourism and responsible tourism criteria. For example, in Nam Dam, tourists can work with the locals in the fields, cook, enjoy specialties, participate in traditional dances, use herbal bath services, and process herbs of the Dao people, which began to develop in 2012. Thanks to the right direction, by 2017, Nam Dam was honored as "ASEAN Homestay". The whole village currently has 39/68 households doing tourism, with an average income of over 50 million VND/person/year, many households achieving a revenue of over 300 million VND. Green tours such as "Cao Lan Cultural Experience", "Discovering the Dong Van Stone Plateau Heritage", "Eco-tourism on Gam River" are being connected, creating a diverse green product chain.
In particular, Lo Lo Chai village, Lung Cu commune has just been honored to be recognized as one of the most typical community tourism villages in the world, after surpassing more than 270 applications from 65 countries. The award, initiated by UN Tourism, is a global initiative to honor rural destinations with outstanding achievements in preserving culture and nature, developing sustainable tourism and improving livelihoods for the community.
In parallel with the development of the base, the Provincial Tourism Association actively promotes "Linking green flows - Tourism in the Northeast heritage region"; the Provincial Tourism Promotion Center implements many meaningful activities: Organizing tourism survey teams associated with tree planting with the message "Each tourist plants one more tree"; Cross-border bicycle tourism program, Zero waste tourism, Smoke-free journey... Ms. Vu Mai Huong, Deputy Director of the Center, said: "Developing green tourism, responsible tourism associated with clean energy is no longer an option but a vital requirement for sustainable tourism development".

The journey needs companionship
Although it has reaped the first "sweet fruit", attracting a large number of tourists, in the first 10 months of 2025, the province is estimated to welcome over 3.2 million visitors; total tourism spending is estimated at VND 8,736.9 billion. However, Tuyen Quang's journey to develop green tourism still faces many challenges.
In some places such as Na Hang, Dong Van, Lung Cu, Meo Vac, the situation of domestic waste still exists; some households spontaneously build accommodation facilities, causing damage to the landscape. Green infrastructure and ecological space planning are still lacking in synchronization, while the capacity to manage the tourism environment has not kept up with the growth rate.
At the Ho Chi Minh City International Tourism Fair 2025, the discussion on clean energy in tourism development pointed out that more than 74% of tourists under 30 years old prioritize sustainability when choosing a destination, more than 80% of international tourists choose environmentally friendly places. This is a signal forcing Tuyen Quang tourism to move faster and grasp the trend.
In the period of 2025 - 2035, the province needs to implement the Green Tourism Development Strategy associated with the Sustainable Development Plan for the Northern Midlands and Mountains; soon issue the "Tuyen Quang Green Tourism" Criteria set to be applied uniformly to tourist areas, destinations, accommodation establishments and businesses. Along with that, there are incentive mechanisms for green investment, support for cooperatives and businesses to install waste treatment systems, encourage the use of renewable energy, environmentally friendly vehicles such as electric cars and tourist bicycles.
A more fundamental solution is to raise public awareness of green tourism, form civilized behavior habits, preserve nature and indigenous culture. It is necessary to promote the development of organic agricultural products associated with tourism in Ham Yen oranges, Na Hang Shan Tuyet tea, Thong Nguyen, honey, medicinal herbs under the forest canopy... Each product is not just a commodity but a "green story" of the land and people of Tuyen. At the same time, develop a circular value chain in tourism services from reusing organic waste, minimizing plastic packaging, so that every link in the tourism industry is environmentally friendly. Along with that is building the brand "Tuyen Quang - Green destination of the Northern mountainous region", promoting digital communication, spreading the image of green tourism on social networking platforms, connecting with global trends.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vuong Ngoc Ha emphasized: The goal in the coming time is to make tourism a spearhead economic sector. The province will continue to accompany the people and businesses to implement sustainable development solutions, linking green tourism with conservation and promotion of traditional festivals, while training human resources, improving service quality, aiming to build Tuyen Quang - a friendly, attractive and unique destination, especially making efforts to maintain the title of UNESCO Global Geopark of Dong Van Stone Plateau in the fourth re-evaluation in 2026.
Nowadays, green tourism is no longer a slogan, but a commitment to action for a sustainable future. With the right orientation, the support of the government, businesses and the community, Tuyen Quang is strongly transforming from “green landscape” to “green development”, harmonizing nature, culture and people.
