Chairman of Dong Thap province shows how to solve difficulties for communes and wards

On December 3, Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Pham Thanh Ngai chaired a meeting to inspect the operation of local government at the commune level and the implementation of socio-economic tasks in 2025 for the wards of Cao Lanh, My Ngai, My Tra and My Tho commune.

Mr. Bui Quoc Nam, Chairman of Cao Lanh Ward People's Committee, proposed a medium-term public investment capital plan for the period 2026 - 2030 of Cao Lanh Ward.

Sharing about the process of operating local government at the commune level, the advantages and difficulties in implementing socio -economic development tasks, Mr. Bui Quoc Nam, Chairman of Cao Lanh Ward People's Committee, said that after merging from 9 communes and wards of Cao Lanh city before, the ward's population increased to more than 137,300 people, management work, especially handling administrative, urban and environmental procedures, still faced many difficulties.

In My Tra ward, after merging 4 communes and wards of Cao Lanh city, overlapping functions, tasks and authority caused difficulties in management and operation. My Tra ward also had difficulty mobilizing capital for works and projects, and the capacity of the new staff was still limited, said Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Cuong, Chairman of My Tra ward People's Committee.

Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province spoke.

At the meeting, Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai suggested that localities should renew their thinking and have plans to implement the Government 's resolutions on economic development, digital transformation in enterprises and management of two-level local governments. Communes and wards need to have specific action programs, utilize resources, review unfinished work, and closely follow the set targets. People's Committees of communes and wards should utilize resources and decentralize power to manage effectively and have solutions to support people in economic development.

In the agricultural sector, Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai emphasized the need to invest in brand building and image promotion through festivals to create buzz for Dong Thap's agricultural products such as mango, tra fish, ornamental flowers, etc. With the task of digital transformation, communes and wards provide specific instructions to each citizen, create a favorable management mechanism, especially the work of cleaning land data, towards effective digital land management; perform well the work of receiving and handling administrative procedures for people; take care of social security, especially during the upcoming Lunar New Year 2026.
