BHG - Ha Giang is witnessing a daily transformation thanks to key strategic projects. From regional connecting highways to sports complexes, dams creating scenic landscapes, and inter-district and inter-commune transportation infrastructure projects – all are expected to not only change the local appearance but also improve people's lives and create a solid foundation for long-term socio-economic development.
As a key project added to the list of national and transportation sector projects by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 1166/QD-TTg dated October 10, 2023, the Tuyen Quang – Ha Giang expressway (phase 1) section through Ha Giang province is expected to be a "lever" to open up the province's economy . The project is progressing on schedule with a total completion rate of 65.4%, including 100% land clearance completed along the entire 27 km route – a positive result given the complex mountainous terrain. Local residents along the expressway have high expectations for this project. "We long for the expressway to facilitate trade, eliminate the problem of trucks getting stuck during the rainy season, and ensure our children can travel to school more safely," shared Ms. Hoang Thi Van, a resident of Quang Minh commune.

The project's expected completion by the end of 2025 is great news for the people, bringing Ha Giang "closer" to major economic centers, reducing agricultural product transportation costs, attracting investment, and promoting tourism development. Furthermore, the project has just been upgraded from a 2-lane to a 4-lane road, increasing the design speed from 80km/h to 100km/h, suitable for mountainous terrain and meeting national standard TCVN 5729:2012. The total adjusted investment has reached over 5 trillion VND, with the central government playing a leading role. This upgrade not only demonstrates a long-term vision but also opens up a future of a modern, safe transportation system serving inter-regional economic development.
Ms. Ha Thi Minh Hanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, stated: "Adjusting the highway to meet development requirements, the 100km/h speed limit will be a 'lever' for Ha Giang to break through, avoid isolation during the rainy season and significantly improve the rate of economic development."

Besides transportation, the province is also paying attention to the sports and culture sector with the implementation of the Provincial Sports and Culture Complex project (phase 1). The stadium, with a capacity of up to 10,000 seats, along with the accompanying road system and technical infrastructure, is gradually taking shape. To date, the project has reached 83.6% of its total volume, with construction accounting for nearly 84% of the contract value. The project is expected to be completed in July 2025, contributing to improving the cultural and sports life of the people, especially young people.
Mr. Hoang Van Cuong, a high-performance sports coach at the Ha Giang Sports Training and Competition Center, shared: “We are very much looking forward to the completion of this sports complex so that we have a modern training ground, can organize tournaments, and contribute to improving the physical and mental fitness of the younger generation, especially in handball – a sport in which Ha Giang has a strong advantage and has had athletes win gold medals at the Seagames.”
One of the projects receiving significant attention is the Ha Giang City Center Landscape Dam Project, with a total investment adjusted to VND 330.29 billion. This project is not only technically valuable but also aesthetically pleasing, creating a nearly 6 km long lake along the Lo River in the city center. The dam, combined with a 122.5m long, 18m wide traffic bridge, is designed for a speed of 50km/h and connects the Southern Ring Road with National Highway 2. To date, construction progress has reached 62.4% of the total volume, with construction work exceeding 70% of the contract value.

Notably, this project is currently in the process of selecting an operating unit and applying for a surface water extraction permit in accordance with regulations. With a reservoir capacity of 2.2 million m³, the project will not only regulate floods but also serve as an architectural landmark, a tourist attraction, and a community living space for urban residents.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut, a small business owner selling coffee near the Lo River, expressed: "When the dam is completed, with the lake, trees, and beautiful pedestrian bridge, there will definitely be more tourists coming here, and business will be more favorable. People will also have a place to stroll and relax after work."
Despite the new administrative merger of Ha Giang with Tuyen Quang province, the people of this borderland of Vietnam still hold a unique cultural, historical, and human value, reflecting their aspirations for progress. These key projects are not merely construction works but strategic steps that will create new momentum and strength for Ha Giang. Modern infrastructure will gradually bridge geographical divides, enhance competitiveness, boost services and trade, and promote sustainable development for the locality.
