Lam Dong province has a new Chairman of the Provincial People's Council and a new Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Lam Dong province officially has a new Chairman of the Provincial People's Council and a new Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee after these two key positions were vacant for eight months.

On the morning of August 23rd, the 10th term (2021-2026) of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Council held its 17th session to address urgent matters within its authority (electing the Chairman of the Provincial People's Council and the Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee). Accordingly, the session elected Ms. Pham Thi Phuc, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department, as the Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Council. Also at the session, the delegates elected Professor-Doctor Tran Hong Thai, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, as the Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term.

Ms. Pham Thi Phuc (47 years old, from Quang Ngai province) rose through the ranks of the Youth Union movement and has held various positions: Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union, Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Youth Union, Secretary of the Lam Dong Provincial Youth Union (2009-2015); Secretary of the Lam Ha District Party Committee; President of the Lam Dong Provincial Federation of Labor; Deputy Head and then Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department. Professor Tran Hong Thai (50 years old, from Ha Tinh province) graduated from a university in Russia and defended his doctoral thesis in earth sciences and mathematics at Heidelberg University (Germany). Mr. Thai previously worked at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and served as Director General of the General Department of Meteorology and Hydrology; in October 2023, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Science and Technology.

Earlier that same day (August 23), the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee held a conference to implement the Central Party Secretariat's decision on personnel matters. The Central Party Secretariat transferred and appointed Mr. Tran Hong Thai to the Executive Committee and Standing Committee, and to the position of Deputy Secretary of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term. Thus, after an 8-month vacancy since Mr. Tran Duc Quan, former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, and Mr. Tran Van Hiep, former Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, were prosecuted and detained by the Ministry of Public Security in connection with the Dai Ninh project, Lam Dong officially has a new Chairman of the Provincial People's Council and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Also at the session, the delegates of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Council unanimously agreed to dismiss Mr. Nguyen Khac Binh from the position of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; and to dismiss Ms. Duong Thi Nga from the position of Head of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Provincial People's Council, due to her transfer to another position. The session elected Mr. Da Cat Vinh, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association, as Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; and elected Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of the Bao Loc City People's Committee, as Head of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Provincial People's Council.
