What should you do during Tet (Lunar New Year) to bring good luck and peace throughout the year?

Tet (Vietnamese New Year) always carries a beautiful belief: how the beginning of the year will determine the direction of the whole year. That's why people avoid arguments, choose kind words to speak, wear neat clothes, and choose cheerful people to meet.

According to the Buddhist Information Portal , everyone hopes that good fortune and peace will remain in their home for a long time. But if we calmly reflect, we will see that good fortune is not a gift that falls from the sky at the moment of New Year's Eve. It is like a seed; to bear sweet fruit, you must sow and nurture it.

Therefore, Tet is not only a time to pray, but also a time to start living in a way that makes your prayers come true.

First, to find peace, one must learn to calm their own heart. So many people enter the new year with their minds still full of anxiety, anger, and resentment. They burn incense profusely, but their hearts burn like fire. Such a heart can hardly feel peace, even if peace is right at their doorstep.

Tet is a good time to pause, breathe slowly, and let go. Let go of old stories, unresolved frustrations, and long-standing rivalries. When your heart is light, life naturally becomes lighter. Sometimes, good fortune begins there.

Secondly, if you want a prosperous year, practice speaking kind words. It's no coincidence that on New Year's Day, Vietnamese people avoid saying unlucky things or scolding. Words are energy. They can make flowers bloom, or they can wither hearts.

A sincere greeting, a hearty laugh, a kind inquiry… sometimes these are the first blessings we give to ourselves in the new year. Those who sow seeds of kindness in the hearts of others rarely return empty-handed.

Furthermore, if you desire peace, live honestly. Living honestly sounds simple, but it is the strongest foundation. Don't do wrong for a small gain. Don't forget kindness in haste. Don't trample on others for the sake of desire.

Peace doesn't come from avoiding risks, but from not running away from ourselves. There are nights when, lying down and recalling a day lived honestly, we sleep very soundly. That sleep is the most auspicious.

Tet (Vietnamese New Year) is also a time when people often do good deeds: giving gifts, helping others, and sharing. Actually, you don't have to wait until Tet to do these things, but doing them at the beginning of the year gives you more faith to continue throughout the year. When we open our hearts to those less fortunate, we touch the most beautiful part of ourselves. Blessings are born from that.

A lucky year often begins when we become lucky for someone else.

And perhaps most importantly: gratitude. Gratitude for being here, for having a family, a job, and the opportunity to correct mistakes and start over. Grateful people often look at life with a gentler perspective. That perspective helps them weather the storms without breaking. Good fortune likes to visit places where there is appreciation.

New Year's Eve will pass, the fireworks will fade, and the feast will be served. Only how we live will determine the rest of the year. If each day we maintain a little mindfulness, a little compassion, and a little honesty, then even without calling out, good fortune and peace will find us.

Therefore, Tet is not just about ushering in a new year. It opens up an opportunity for us to live anew. And when we live anew with a pure heart, every year is a good year.
