Typically, if you lose your phone, most people will choose to call it. However, what do you do if your phone is on silent mode, or even if the person who found it doesn't want to return it?
Having a plan in place will help you proactively protect your important personal data. If your iPhone is lost, stay calm because there are ways to locate your lost iPhone through your iCloud account.
Here are a few things to keep in mind if you lose your iPhone.
Enable SIM lock on iPhone.
To activate this feature, go to Settings, then select Phone, and then SIM PIN. Here, toggle this feature on and set a PIN.
Always set a screen unlock password.
This is an effective way to protect your phone. If someone finds your phone, they won't know the password to unlock the screen, because if they perform a factory reset, the iPhone could immediately become unusable without knowing the iCloud account.
Apple currently offers several security options for users, but you should set your password to the alphanumeric option, because someone who finds or steals your password won't know how many characters it has.
Use iCloud Lost Mode.
You should immediately use iCloud's Find My iPhone feature to lock your iPhone, giving you the initiative to protect the information on your iPhone.
Accordingly, from any iPhone, access the Find My iPhone feature and enter iCloud. The system will then display the next iPhone's location; select your iPhone and temporarily set it to Lost Mode.
Alternatively, you can access iCloud, select Find iPhone, and choose Lost Mode.
Activate your Mastercard or Visa cards (if applicable).
To activate Mastercard or Visa for your Apple ID, go to Settings, select iCloud, tap your login name, and choose Payment Card.
If you activate payment cards in your Apple ID account, a thief wanting to change your password would be forced to enter your payment card information. Note that you should be careful when creating your Apple ID and remember that your security question, email address, etc., must not be the same as your primary email address, and the same applies to your phone number.
Do not access "unfamiliar" websites.
By logging into unfamiliar websites, sophisticated thieves often create a link to a fake website containing malware, which they use to trick users into logging into their iCloud accounts or hacking your information. Please note that you should always visit Apple's official website.
Use two-factor authentication for your Apple ID account.
iCloud is Apple's most important asset; if someone knows your login password, it's very easy to lose your information. Apple ID's two-factor authentication feature works quite simply but provides extremely good security.
After activating this feature, every time you log in to your Apple ID on an unfamiliar device or change your account information, a notification will always be sent to your trusted phone number, along with a 6-digit code to verify your login.
