NDO - On November 16th, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) organized a scientific conference with the theme: "Assessment and Implementation of the Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Start-up Project in Vietnam based on the model of the Federal Republic of Germany".

The workshop attracted the participation of over 80 delegates, including lecturers, scientists, managers, and businesspeople from state management agencies, universities, colleges, research organizations, production and business establishments, students, and trainees in Hanoi .

Delegates offered numerous suggestions, recommendations, and solutions regarding the training and support of Vietnamese students in establishing careers and sustainable entrepreneurship.

In his opening remarks, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), stated: Over the past period, the university has pursued a policy of harmonizing the training of in-depth knowledge and a solid foundation with equipping students with flexibility, initiative, and the ability to quickly adapt to social realities. Besides researching policies, the university closely monitors graduation trends and employment opportunities for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) as well as other universities.

Accordingly, students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities not only work in their trained fields but also in many other areas. Many students have a strong entrepreneurial spirit based on the knowledge acquired at the university. This aims to spread the spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship, and prepare students for integration and starting their own businesses.

According to Dr. Mac Quoc Anh, Director of the Institute of Economics and Business Development and General Secretary of the Hanoi Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Association, in the context of globalization and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the startup movement has become an inevitable trend in Vietnam, especially for young people and students.

In Hanoi, as the country's largest educational center, universities have played a crucial role in promoting this movement. The number of student startup projects in Hanoi increased fivefold from 2010 to 2023. From just 100 projects in 2010, this number reached 500 projects in 2023. Student startup projects have attracted a total investment of over 300 billion VND from investment funds, businesses, and non-governmental organizations.

Despite the availability of various funding sources, access to capital remains challenging, particularly for new startups. According to statistics from the National Startup Center, 80% of student startups struggle to raise investment capital. Only about 30% receive financial support from investment funds or financial institutions. Furthermore, students often lack management and business skills, leading to their inability to sustain projects when difficulties arise. More practical courses and training programs are needed to address this issue.

According to statistics from the National Center for Startup Support, there are currently about 3,800 active startups nationwide. Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, Trieu The Hung, recommended: Further research is needed to improve the legal framework for startup policies, support for entrepreneurship and business start-ups for young people; and to refine policies and support from the State and all levels of government in the startup process. The development and implementation of policies to encourage and promote innovation need to clearly define the fields and coordination mechanisms between ministries, sectors, and localities; and policies should be subject to consultation with multiple stakeholders before being issued.

Professor Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem, Director of the Center for Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship Support at Hanoi National University, affirmed: In the national innovation system and the startup ecosystem, universities are a very important component. Strong universities are a source of knowledge and technology for society, providing abundant creative ideas for startup projects, and contributing to the increase of assets and intellectual capacity of businesses.

Universities and colleges have focused on teaching, training, and capacity building to enhance students' awareness and capabilities. They have implemented diverse content and methods to cultivate knowledge and skills, and provide resources to support students in transforming their ideas into viable business projects that benefit the community.

Therefore, in the coming period, the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi National University, and other higher education institutions need to improve the system of policies and mechanisms to consolidate trust, strengthen the organic and lasting link between universities and businesses, and enhance the compilation of curriculum frameworks, materials, textbooks, and learning resources on entrepreneurship and innovation so that the knowledge and skills provided to students are of high quality, effective, and substantial.

The founder of the Dao Minh Quang Foundation, Dr. Dao Minh Quang, stated: "To ensure that businesses are established and can survive and develop sustainably, entrepreneurs must have specialized knowledge, a proactive attitude, and a thirst for learning..."

At the workshop, the organizers announced and introduced the Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Career Development Project at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, funded by the Dao Minh Quang Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany. The project includes key aspects such as professional activities, implementation progress, and deliverables of each activity, intended for practical training and entrepreneurship practice for students and trainees in universities and colleges. The novelty and focus of this project is practical training based on the Sustainable Entrepreneurship model of the Federal Republic of Germany for individuals wishing to start their own businesses, typically aged 18 to 35.
