During the nation's arduous years, Lang Son quickly became a base and a solid support for the revolution, as well as a place where the patriotic spirit and indomitable will of the people of various ethnic groups converged. The first time President Ho Chi Minh set foot in Lang Son was in 1950 when he directly supervised, monitored, and encouraged the forces participating in the Border Campaign. His second official visit to Lang Son was on February 23, 1960, and his final visit was in February 1961 during a working trip to Cao Bang , where he visited and conversed with cadres, soldiers, and people in the former Trang Dinh district.
These visits not only held significant political importance but also reflected the profound affection that President Ho Chi Minh had for the people of the ethnic minorities in the border regions of the country. For Mrs. Lieu Thi Da, from Lang Cang 1 village, Van Linh commune, the time she met President Ho Chi Minh and listened to him speak at the Dong Kinh stadium on February 23, 1960, is the most sacred memory of her life.
According to her account, the stadium was packed with people that day, flocking from all over, everyone excited and moved to see and listen to President Ho Chi Minh speak. His warm, approachable voice, along with his kind questions and advice, left a deep impression on every citizen. She recalled emotionally, "I still vividly remember President Ho Chi Minh's advice that women should also strive to learn to read and write. Following his advice, I diligently studied each letter and even the multiplication table at home. Later, I always reminded and taught my children to get a proper education."
The affection for President Ho Chi Minh extends beyond mere memory or reverence, becoming a lasting source of spiritual strength that fuels the resilience of the people in the border region. Bearing in mind President Ho Chi Minh's sentiments and teachings, generations of cadres, Party members, and people of all ethnic groups in Lang Son have always strived to overcome difficulties and challenges, steadfastly following the path chosen by the Party and President Ho Chi Minh. During the war, Lang Son served as a strong rear base and a frontline defense of the border; in peacetime, the province continuously innovates, fostering unity and working together to build an increasingly prosperous, beautiful, and civilized homeland.
That spirit has been continuously nurtured through each stage of the revolution. From studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style to patriotic emulation movements, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas, developing border gate economies, and ensuring national defense and security, all are imbued with the idea of "putting the people first," as he once advised.
Over the years, the Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups in the province have united and resolutely implemented the goals and targets set forth in the resolutions of the Party congresses at all levels for the 2020-2025 term. During the past term, the average GRDP growth rate reached 7.1%; GRDP per capita increased from VND 44.2 million (2020) to VND 71.1 million (2025); and the province eliminated more than 6,500 temporary and dilapidated houses. The socio-economic situation continued to develop stably, social security was fully and promptly implemented, and the work of Party building and strengthening the political system was consolidated.
Along with socio-economic development, all levels and sectors throughout the province have always focused on preserving and restoring sites associated with President Ho Chi Minh's footsteps and revolutionary history. These relics are not only places of gratitude and remembrance, but also "red addresses" for educating the younger generation about traditions, inspiring willpower, determination, and initiative in carrying out movements and tasks, and joining the whole country in moving forward into a new era.
Mr. Doan Thanh Cong, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, and Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, shared: "In the coming time, we will focus on effectively carrying out political and ideological education, cultivating character, and nurturing revolutionary aspirations and ideals for each young person. At the same time, we will be at the forefront in implementing movements and activities to maintain environmental hygiene, eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, improve the professional capacity and skills of young cadres; actively start businesses, develop clean and organic agriculture, OCOP products, develop community tourism, and be pioneers in digital transformation in various fields."
The memories of President Ho Chi Minh's visits to Lang Son remain as valuable as ever. They are not only a source of profound pride for the Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups in the province, but also a tremendous spiritual motivation, further strengthening the resolve of Lang Son to stand firm on the border of the Fatherland, joining the rest of the country in entering a new stage of development with greater faith, aspirations, and determination.
