Responding to concerns about a shortage of schools for students, the leaders of Dak Lak province stated that, to ensure that nearly 3,000 students can enroll in the 10th grade of the continuing education system, the Provincial Party Committee has directed the Provincial People's Committee and relevant units to allocate additional funds and authorize the Continuing Education and Vocational Training Centers to open more classes and contract high school teachers in the area to teach. In the long term, in addition to further investing in expanding facilities, the province will implement a multi-faceted selection or examination method to ensure fairness in school selection based on students' academic abilities.
3,000 junior high school graduates in Dak Lak face many difficulties in vocational training after the retraining program was restructured.
Mr. Pham Minh Tan, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee, said: “ The province's future direction is to expand public schools and secondly, to consider admission methods based on various criteria to avoid a situation where students who meet the requirements are not able to attend public schools or schools of their choice .”
It is known that in the 2022-2023 school year, Dak Lak province had over 29,000 students graduating from junior high school. To date, approximately 23,300 students have been admitted to grade 10 (including both public and private schools), accounting for over 77%. 6,600 students have not yet been admitted to grade 10. Of these, about 3,600 are in the continuing education system. The remaining nearly 3,000 students still lack schools to attend. This is because many districts currently do not have schools where these students can learn vocational skills or general education. Students also face many difficulties in accessing vocational training schools nationwide.
Explaining why nearly 3,000 students still lack schools, Mr. Do Tuong Hiep, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training, said that the enrollment for 10th grade in high schools is carried out according to the Vocational Education and Student Stream Orientation Program in general education for the period 2018-2025 (Project 522).
Accordingly, 70% of students graduating from lower secondary school will go on to upper secondary school, while the rest will study a program that combines vocational training with general education. The Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training acknowledged the shortcomings in the 10th grade admissions process based on selection and geographical zoning, leading to students only being able to choose one public school to apply to.
