On the afternoon of November 30th, Mr. Le Van Ninh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ly Son Island District ( Quang Ngai province), stated that the district government is currently seeking opinions on a proposal to collect entrance fees for scenic spots, historical and cultural relics in the area starting in 2024.

According to Mr. Ninh, in 2019, the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council issued Resolution No. 13/2019/NQ-HĐND regulating the collection rates, collection methods, management, and use of entrance fees for scenic spots, historical relics, cultural works, and museums on Ly Son Island.
However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ly Son Island authorities have not yet been able to implement the entrance fee collection scheme. Currently, Ly Son Island district is organizing a process to gather opinions on this scheme before submitting it to Quang Ngai province for consideration and approval through a new resolution.
The purpose of collecting entrance fees is to generate revenue for the local authorities to carry out restoration, preservation, and promotion of the value of historical sites, as well as environmental protection on the island.
Mr. Le Van Ninh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ly Son Island District, chaired a meeting to gather opinions on the proposal to collect entrance fees for tourism on the island.
The draft proposal suggests that the entrance fee for scenic spots, historical relics, cultural works, and museums on Ly Son Island will be 80,000 VND per person per visit on the main island and 20,000 VND per person per visit on the smaller island.
Visitors to individual attractions can purchase tickets for separate groups, with entrance fees of 20,000 VND per group for groups such as Hang Cau Cave, the flagpole, Thoi Loi Mountain; Hang Pagoda; To Vo Arch, and Gieng Tien Volcano.
Specifically, the Hoang Sa and Bac Hai Naval Squadron Exhibition House and the Lang Tan Whale Skeleton Exhibition House have an entrance fee of 10,000 VND per person.
The geology has given Ly Son a magnificent landscape.
The scheme offers free entrance tickets for children under 6 years old, severely disabled individuals, residents of Ly Son; officials, civil servants, and members of the armed forces working in agencies and units within Ly Son district; and officials, civil servants, and members of the armed forces on official business in Ly Son district. Additionally, a 30% to 50% discount on entrance fees will be applied to certain other special cases.
The Hang Pagoda scenic spot is located on the coast of Ly Son Island.
Ly Son Island District will set up a ticket counter at Ben Dinh Port with two ticket prices for visiting the main island and the small island. At the same time, counters and staff will be stationed at tourist attractions to check tickets.
Compared to Resolution No. 13 of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council issued earlier, Ly Son district has added a fee collection point for the Lang Tan Whale Skeleton Exhibition House and reduced the entrance fee to Be Island from 30,000 VND/person to 20,000 VND/person.
Hon Dun on Ly Son Island
This week, Ly Son district will finalize the draft plan, submission, and resolution to gather public opinion and have it reviewed by relevant departments and agencies before submitting it to the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee for consideration and approval by the Provincial People's Council.
Mr. Le Van Ninh stated that the project is currently in the consultation phase and has not yet been submitted to the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee, so it is unknown when it will be implemented, but the expected timeframe is in the first quarter of 2024. Accordingly, it is projected that Ly Son will collect approximately 8 billion VND annually from entrance fees. In 2023, Ly Son island district welcomed 170,000 tourists.
