According to ancient legends, Tuan Quan Temple dates back to the Le Trung Hung era, early 15th century, in Bach Lam commune, Tran Yen district, Hung Hoa province, now Yen Ninh ward, Yen Bai city. The temple is also known as Bach Lam Lady Diep Temple and Ve Quoc Temple. It is dedicated to the goddess Lieu Hanh, traditionally believed to be Princess Quynh Hoa who descended to earth. Because of her contributions to protecting the nation and its people, King Le Hien Tong bestowed upon her the title of Duc Chua Quoc Mau Hoang An Phuong Dung. Additionally, the temple also worships Saint Tran Quoc Tuan, who helped the king fight invaders and save the country.
In 2005, Tuan Quan Temple was recognized as a provincial-level historical and cultural relic. The temple is not only a place of spiritual and cultural activity for Buddhist followers from all over, but also a place that commemorates important historical events and milestones of the country, associated with the names of national heroes and patriotic figures. It was also a gathering place for forces and fundraising to support the resistance war.
The Tuan Quan Temple Festival is held annually on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month, following a long-standing tradition of our nation. It attracts a large number of people and tourists from within and outside the province who come to visit and worship. In addition, the temple also holds a "Father's Feast" on the 20th day of the 8th lunar month every year. This is a cultural and religious activity full of humanistic values in social life, an opportunity for people to remember their roots, their ancestors, and to recall the glorious historical traditions of the nation that our forefathers have built over more than 4,000 years of nation-building and defense.
Following the rituals and incense offerings, the festival included various activities such as: a competition for arranging offerings to the Mother Goddess, tug-of-war, chess, stick pushing, blindfolded duck catching, etc. Through these cultural activities, imbued with folk traditions, the festival became more vibrant and truly a meaningful cultural exchange for locals and visitors from all over.
