Long Tong Chiem Hoa Festival

On February 24th (the 8th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Horse 2026), in the atmosphere of welcoming the new year, the People's Committee of Chiêm Hóa commune organized the Lồng Tông Festival - the Day of Going Down to the Fields, a traditional festival of the Tay ethnic people in Tuyên Quang province.

The Lồng Tông Festival is a traditional event deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups in the province. With the hope for a new year filled with joy, favorable weather, abundant harvests, and a prosperous and happy life, the festival will continue to be held in the spring of 2026 (Year of the Horse).

The festival consists of two parts: The ceremonial part is held solemnly with the procession of 9 trays of offerings from the Temple of the Gods down to the Chiêm Hóa commune stadium, followed by a spectacular lion dance performance by young men and women.

The ceremonial trays are carried down from the Temple of the Hundred Gods to be offered as sacrifices in the New Year's opening ceremony, praying for the health and prosperity of the villagers.

Next comes the ritual of going down to the fields and plowing, symbolizing the beginning of a new farming season.

Following the ceremonial part is the festival with many unique cultural and folk activities such as throwing the ball, singing traditional songs, tug-of-war, stick pushing, blindfolded goat catching, and cultural exchanges... attracting a large number of locals and tourists to participate.

This is a springtime gathering that helps people strengthen their solidarity with the community, and it is also an opportunity to preserve and promote the cultural traditions of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups. It creates a joyful atmosphere for the New Year among the ethnic groups in Tuyen Quang province.

Joining in the lively atmosphere of the festival, Ms. Bao Vy – a resident of the former Phuc Thinh commune – expressed her excitement and pride at witnessing the vibrant atmosphere rich in national identity. For her, the festival not only brings joy but also reminds everyone to cherish and promote the traditional values ​​of their ancestors.

The Lồng Tông Spring Festival of Chiêm Hoá commune in 2026 (Year of the Horse) not only holds profound spiritual and cultural significance but also serves as an opportunity to promote the image of Chiêm Hoá's friendly and hospitable people. Through this, it contributes to the development of community tourism , the preservation of ethnic identity, and creates motivation for the people to enter the new year with a spirit of competitive labor and production, building an increasingly prosperous, beautiful, and civilized homeland.
