The Muong Xia Festival was included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2022. This is an important cultural and religious activity in the spiritual life of the Thai ethnic people in Quan Son district; an occasion for people to remember General Tu Ma Hai Dao - who made great contributions in defeating the invading army, bringing peace and prosperity to the people of the western border region of Thanh Hoa province.

The festival also recreates the formation and development of Muong Xia, linked to its history from Muong Chu San, the legend of the love between a handsome young man and a beautiful young woman in Pha Dua mountain, and the customs, traditions, and beliefs of the Thai people of Muong Xia.

Every year on the 9th and 10th of February (lunar calendar), the local people hold the Muong Xia Festival.
Today, the Muong Xia Festival is not limited to the Thai ethnic group in Son Thuy commune (Quan Son district), but also serves as a cultural exchange and activity center for the Thai, Kinh, and Muong ethnic groups of Quan Son district and the Muong Dao region of Ba Thuoc district (the birthplace of Tu Ma Hai Dao), and the Muong Ben and Muong Xoi regions of neighboring Laos.

Traditional costumes are showcased at the festival.
Despite the ups and downs of history, the Muong Xia Festival has been passed down through generations by the local people. Currently, the festival has undergone changes to suit the present reality but still retains its original essence. With its profound historical, humanistic, and scientific values, in 2022 the Muong Xia Festival was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The Muong Xia Festival 2024, organized by Quan Son district, featured numerous cultural and sporting activities rich in traditional cultural identity, attracting a large number of people and tourists to participate.
