On the morning of April 9th, at Dao Gia Vien, Du Le commune ( Hai Phong ), the Hai Phong Xam Singing Club (City Cultural, Film and Exhibition Center) and the Hai Thanh Xam Singing Club (Hai Phong City Folk Arts Association) jointly organized the 2026 Commemoration Ceremony for the Ancestors of Traditional Vietnamese Xam Singing. Starting at 9:00 AM, the program included incense offerings, singing in honor of the ancestors, and Xam singing performances. The ceremony was held solemnly according to traditional rituals to commemorate the ancestors and the forefathers who contributed to preserving and teaching the art of Xam singing. Following the ceremony, artisans, artists, and Xẩm singing enthusiasts from various localities gathered to interact, perform, and share experiences. Many outstanding performances were presented, such as: "Folk Melodies," "The Love of a Mother," "The Love of Loan and Phung," "The Determination to Cultivate Oneself," "The Water Seller," "Countryside Life," "Street Life - Old Hai Phong - Modern Hai Phong,"... showcasing the inheritance and creativity in contemporary Xẩm singing practice. Artist Dao Bach Linh, Head of the Hai Phong Xam Singing Troupe, gave a speech reviewing the results of activities over the past year. The Ancestor Commemoration Ceremony is not only an occasion to pay tribute but also a space for practitioners of the heritage to meet, pass on skills and professional rules, and contribute to maintaining the vitality of Xam singing art in contemporary life. Xẩm singing is a popular traditional folk art form in the Northern Delta and midland regions of Vietnam, embodying unique folk performance characteristics within the national musical heritage. The annual commemoration of the founders of xẩm singing is held on the 22nd of February and the 22nd of August in the lunar calendar, reflecting the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source," and contributing to raising community awareness in preserving and promoting the value of this intangible cultural heritage.HAI HAU
