In recent years, many people have chosen natural therapies to treat illnesses and improve their health.

Effective

Ms. Nguyen Thu Giang, 40 years old, from Tran Phu commune (Nam Sach district), suffers from chronic headaches. Furthermore, her job involves organizing and managing data for a company, which sometimes exacerbates her condition. However, in recent years, instead of relying on Western medicine, Ms. Giang has sought out non-drug headache remedies. She explained: “Before, every time I had a headache, I would take medication, even if it was just a fleeting pain. Although this method quickly relieved the pain, the intensity increased each time it returned. Moreover, using too much Western medicine affected my liver and kidney function.”

Introduced by friends and relatives, Ms. Giang began researching natural remedies for headaches. She was advised to use methods such as hot and cold compresses, steam inhalation, massage, and acupressure to relieve the pain. Initially, Ms. Giang received assistance from medical staff at a healthcare facility. Later, after becoming proficient in the steps, she proactively did it herself at home. "This method doesn't provide immediate relief, but it's safe, so I feel very reassured. Now, in addition to treating headaches, I also apply natural therapies to treat neck, shoulder, and back pain," Ms. Giang shared.

Mr. Nguyen Chinh Hanh, 62 years old, residing in Tan Binh ward ( Hai Duong city), has been living with a herniated disc for many years. Previously, due to his busy work schedule, Mr. Hanh didn't focus on treatment and only used medication to alleviate the pain. As he got older and his condition worsened, he began to pay attention to his health. He said he had consulted many doctors and used various medications, but the results were not as expected. After researching and experiencing it himself, Mr. Hanh has chosen to treat his herniated disc using natural therapies for over 5 years now.

Non-drug treatments are generally benign and provide long-lasting results.

Every week, Mr. Hanh visits a physiotherapy center for acupuncture and hot compresses. Based on his physical condition and health, he is guided through exercises and movements to do at home to reduce pressure on his joints. Through consistent practice over a long period, Mr. Hanh no longer feels tired or discouraged by the pain and has developed a healthy lifestyle and exercise routine. Mr. Hanh said: “Since starting this natural therapy, my herniated disc has improved significantly. My health has also improved, and I feel more relaxed and at ease.”

Natural healing, also known as drug-free therapy, refers to methods of treating or supporting the treatment of diseases without using any chemical drugs that affect the body through injections, oral administration, topical application, or inhalation.

There are many non-drug therapies for treating diseases such as acupuncture, massage, acupressure, Qigong, health preservation exercises, physical therapy, and psychotherapy… These methods are often used to treat chronic diseases and can be combined to enhance treatment effectiveness.

Ms. Dinh Thi Phuong Thao is a therapeutic yoga instructor in Hai Duong City. Her classes are always packed with students of all ages. According to Ms. Thao, as society develops and the quality of life improves, people pay more attention to and invest more in their health. Ms. Thao designs lesson plans tailored to each student because everyone's health problems are different. Among the most popular concerns are exercises to treat neck and shoulder pain, back pain, spinal problems, varicose veins, endocrine disorders, high blood pressure, depression, insomnia, and herniated discs… “It’s not just people with illnesses who seek natural therapies; even healthy people regularly practice to improve their health,” Ms. Thao said.

According to the Provincial Traditional Medicine Association, natural therapies are increasingly chosen by many people due to their numerous advantages. Not only are they safe and effective, but drug-free treatment is also easy to implement and inexpensive. Besides treating illnesses, this therapy is also very effective in disease prevention, as patients can proactively apply it. However, natural therapies also have some limitations, such as slow effects, long treatment times requiring patience from patients, and inability to be used in acute cases…

Pham Duc Thuy, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Traditional Medicine Association, noted that the increasing number of people choosing non-drug treatment methods shows that people are increasingly interested in treating illnesses in a gentle, safe way with few side effects. At the same time, they are proactively improving their health through natural therapies to prevent disease. As a result, the burden of disease will be reduced.
