Following the motto "Wherever the people need help, wherever they are in need, the An Lão soldiers are there," at approximately 5:00 AM on October 11th, over 100 officers and soldiers of Regiment 2 arrived at My Phuc village, Tien Luc commune, and divided into several teams to quickly immerse themselves in the water to help the people harvest rice, prioritizing single-parent households and impoverished families. Each officer and soldier had a task: some cut the rice, some bundled it, some carried it, and others pushed it ashore. Meanwhile, those on shore coordinated seamlessly with local forces to feed the rice into threshing machines. The sound of the engines mingled with the conversations of the soldiers and villagers, creating a lively atmosphere across the countryside.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Trang, Commander of Regiment 2, said: “In recent days, due to the influence of the remnants of Typhoon No. 11, the Thuong and Cau rivers have risen, submerging many rice fields in Tien Luc commune that were about to be harvested, risking total crop loss if not harvested soon. In response, our unit mobilized officers and soldiers to quickly come and help the people harvest the rice. We consider this an important political task, demonstrating the close bond between the military and the people, helping the people avoid significant losses in crops and quickly stabilize their lives after the floods.”

Soldiers from Regiment 2, Division 3, Military Region 1, are helping people in Tien Luc commune, Bac Ninh province, harvest rice.

It is known that before enlisting, most of the unit's officers and soldiers were farmers, so they did not encounter many difficulties in harvesting, threshing, and drying rice. The young soldiers, when in the fields, enthusiastically worked, their sickles moving swiftly alongside the villagers to harvest the rice. They all worked together, overcoming all difficulties and wholeheartedly saving the rice crop to help the people.

Witnessing the officers and soldiers, their uniforms drenched in sweat, working tirelessly under the scorching sun to help the villagers harvest rice, and quickly gulping down a bottle of water before getting back to work, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phong from My Phuc village happily said: “The soldiers who came to help us harvest the rice worked very hard, continuously without rest to finish harvesting all the flooded rice. If it weren't for the soldiers' help, the families wouldn't know when they would finish harvesting; if left for too long, the rice would sprout, and we would lose everything. Thank you to the soldiers for always accompanying and standing by us in times of difficulty and hardship.”

Nearby, as the threshing machine ceased its operation, Mrs. Nguyen Thi San, with tears welling up in her eyes, said: “During this historic flood, a few days ago, at 3 a.m., my whole family had to frantically protect our pigs; 5 acres of rice ready for harvest were submerged. The day before, I hired 10 people to harvest the rice, but the floodwaters reached their necks, so they had to give up. When I learned that the soldiers were coming to help, I was deeply moved, because otherwise, my family wouldn’t know how to make ends meet this season.”

Setting down bundles of rice stalks still covered in mud on a tarp, and quickly wiping away the sweat from his forehead, soldier Dang Ba Tu, platoon commander, Company 14, Regiment 2, said: “My comrades and I consider the rice fields here as our own family's rice fields, and the farmers as our relatives. So when we help them harvest rice, we all forget our fatigue and work with the highest sense of responsibility to minimize losses for the people.”

Throughout the day, officers and soldiers of Regiment 2 worked tirelessly, helping the people of My Phuc village harvest dozens of hectares of rice, then threshing, bagging, and transporting it safely to their homes. The unit's officers and soldiers also joined hands with local forces to clear fallen trees, repair fences, unclog drains, clean schools, and transport belongings, food, and essential supplies through flooded areas... ensuring the safety of people and property. These acts of kindness by the An Lao soldiers have been recognized and highly appreciated by the local Party committee and government, contributing to the shining image of the Ho Chi Minh's Army in the hearts of the people.
