Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign 2022 World Cup-winning midfielder Alexis MacAllister for less than $55 million.

According to Sky Sports , Liverpool have finalized negotiations with Brighton to sign Mac Allister, who has a release clause of between $55 and $70 million. In October 2023, the Argentinian midfielder signed a new contract with Brighton valid until summer 2025, with an option to extend for another 12 months.

Earlier, transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano used his familiar phrase "Let's go" to confirm that Liverpool had reached an agreement to sign Mac Allister for a fee of approximately $55 million.

The Argentinian midfielder has also agreed to the terms of a five-year contract with Liverpool. On June 6th, Mac Allister arrived at Anfield for a medical examination, spoke directly with manager Jurgen Klopp, and signed the contract. An official announcement will be made no later than the end of the week.

Chelsea and Man Utd are also in talks with Brighton, but Mac Allister prefers a move to Liverpool. The 24-year-old midfielder wants to finalize his future before joining the Argentina national team next week to prepare for two friendly matches against Australia in Beijing, China on June 15, and Indonesia at the Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on June 19.

Mac Allister will be Liverpool's first signing of the 2023 summer transfer window. Klopp wants to overhaul the squad after Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League and missed out on the Champions League next season. The German manager prioritizes refreshing the midfield as Naby Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner all left the club due to contract expiration, while Arthur Melo returned to Juventus after his loan spell ended.

After completing the Mac Allister deal, Liverpool are also looking to recruit Khephren Thuram, the 22-year-old midfielder from Nice, and Manu Kone, the French midfielder currently playing for M'Gladbach. Transfermarkt currently values Thuram at $35 million and Kone at $32 million.

Mac Allister joined Brighton from Argentinos Juniors in January 2019, but played for the Argentinian club for the second half of that season. He then went on loan to Boca Juniors for the first half of the 2019-2020 season, and officially joined Brighton at the Amex Stadium in January 2020.

This season, the Argentinian midfielder has flourished with 12 goals in all competitions, playing a major role in helping Brighton finish sixth in the Premier League and qualify for European competition for the first time in their 121-year history. In total, Mac Allister has scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in 112 appearances for Brighton.

Mac Allister also made a name for himself by starting six matches, including the final victory against France on penalties, as he led the Argentine national team to conquer the 2022 World Cup.
