A solemn vow

The practical actions of the Ga Ry Border Guard Station contribute to firmly consolidating the "people's support" and strengthening the trust of border residents in the Party and the State.

In mid-January 2025, I had the opportunity to return to Ga Ry, a border commune in Tay Giang district, Quang Nam province, where the Ga Ry Border Guard Post is located. The saying "The post is our home, the border is our homeland, and the people are our brothers and sisters" is not just a catchphrase, but has become a solemn vow of the soldiers in green uniforms stationed there.

For border security

The Ga Ry Border Guard Post manages 27.3 km of border with 12 border markers, from 691 to 702. This border line passes through two communes, Ga Ry and Ch'ơm, in Tay Giang district, bordering Ka Lum district, Sekong province, Laos.

Stationed in a vast area where the lives of the people in the border region are still fraught with difficulties, the unit has always received the attention, leadership, and guidance of the Party Committee, the Provincial Border Guard Command, the District Party Committee, and the People's Committee of Tay Giang District.

Soldiers from Ga Ry Border Guard Post, along with youth union members from Ch'ơm and Ga Ry communes, built a training ground.

Lieutenant Colonel Do Quang Vinh, Commander of the Ga Ry Border Guard Post, said that for many years, the bond between the military and the people here has always been strong and close. The soldiers wholeheartedly help the people stabilize their lives, and the people act as "eyes and ears," actively participating in the movement to protect national security. Often, the people's affairs are also the responsibility of the officers and soldiers. "The unit always acts proactively and promptly, avoiding being caught off guard in any situation. At the same time, we closely coordinate with the police force, the government, and the people in the area where the unit is stationed to consolidate a solid 'people's support' base, maintaining political and social stability at the grassroots level, thereby laying the foundation for the firm protection of national border security and sovereignty," Commander Do Quang Vinh said.

In fact, over the years, the Ga Ry Border Guard Post has done a good job coordinating patrols, ensuring that the border line and boundary markers under its management remain intact and secure. In 2024 alone, the Ga Ry Border Guard Post coordinated with the police, militia, and local people to conduct 12 patrols with 260 officers, soldiers, and civilians participating. In addition, the unit also conducted bilateral patrols with the border protection forces of Laos, thereby promptly detecting and handling violations of border management and protection regulations. The system of border lines and national boundary markers has always been maintained, contributing to building a peaceful , stable, and developing border.

In addition to their border patrol duties, the officers and soldiers of Ga Ry Border Guard Post place special emphasis on community outreach. In this remote, mountainous area where the level of education and legal knowledge is low, the soldiers go "door to door" to spread awareness, persuade, guide, and encourage the local population.

Military-civilian solidarity

Speaking about the "people's support" in the border region, Station Chief Do Quang Vinh affirmed that this is an extremely important task for the Ga Ry Border Guard Station. History has confirmed that the task of protecting border sovereignty and security cannot be accomplished without relying on the strength of the "people's support." When the entire community understands and participates in maintaining and protecting border security, it creates a solid wall against all external threats.

Joint border patrol between Vietnam and Laos between Ga Ry Border Guard Station and the border guard forces of the neighboring country.

The "people's support" that the border guards here have built extends beyond the boundaries of the national border markers and the two communes of Ch'ơm and Ga Ry, maintaining good friendly relations between Vietnam and Laos with the people of the border communes and the border patrol forces of the neighboring country. For example, during the annual Bunpimay New Year festival in Laos, the Ga Ry Border Guard Post, in coordination with the border protection forces of Laos, organizes the distribution of New Year gifts to the people of A Bưl and Panool villages in Kà Lừm district, Sê Kông province.

Furthermore, the leadership and command of the Ga Ry Border Guard Post always pay attention to, create favorable conditions for, and encourage officers, soldiers, and youth union members to uphold the pioneering spirit in various movements, overcome all difficulties and hardships, and together firmly protect the border system and national boundary markers. During Youth Month and "March at the Border," the Youth Union of the Ga Ry Border Guard Post organizes many activities that connect with local organizations, authorities, and people, contributing to strengthening the solidarity between the military and the people.

During "Youth Month" in 2024, the Youth Union of Ga Ry Border Guard Station, in coordination with the Youth Unions of Ch'ơm and Ga Ry communes, carried out many practical activities, such as transporting over 100 cubic meters of earth and stone to build a training ground; clearing over 4 km of patrol roads; and inspecting national defense infrastructure. Lieutenant Hoang Anh Tai shared: "These meaningful actions demonstrate the strong solidarity between the military and the people. We always stand side by side with the people to build a solid all-people border defense posture, maintaining the beautiful image of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the hearts of the people."

It can be said that the image of the soldier in green uniform from Ga Ry has been deeply imprinted in the minds of the people in the border region of Ga Ry and Ch'ơm. Through community-oriented activities and concrete actions, they have contributed to strengthening the sense of responsibility of each individual in managing and protecting the national border. More importantly, it has firmly consolidated the "people's support," strengthening the trust of the people in the Party and the State in general, and the Border Guard force in particular.

And perhaps, only when we travel to the remotest parts of our country, witnessing firsthand the border patrol activities, and seeing the work of the officers and soldiers for the people in the highlands, will we truly understand the hardships and difficulties, but also the profound bond of affection between the military and the people in the border region of Ga Ry - Ch'ơm!
