Driven by the practical needs of the aquaculture area, local households have joined together to establish a cooperative for raising clean shrimp and crabs in Kinh Tu hamlet, with 17 members and an area of over 40 hectares. Here, members of the cooperative not only receive support in the production and consumption of their products but also have the opportunity to learn techniques, exchange experiences, improve their knowledge, update market information, and receive support in terms of production capital, seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides at reasonable prices.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Chieu, Head of the Cooperative Group, said: “Since joining the Cooperative Group, I and the members of the group have attended training courses on shrimp and crab farming processes from the seedling stage, care to harvesting. On average, the Cooperative Group sells 200-300 tons of clean shrimp and crab annually. At the same time, the Cooperative Group produces in large quantities, according to clean standards, signs product purchase contracts with businesses, and sells at higher prices, avoiding price manipulation by traders.”

By participating in the cooperative for raising clean shrimp and crabs, members not only receive support in terms of output and technical expertise but also access to low-interest revolving capital. Each member contributes a small amount to create a revolving fund, which is then used to provide unsecured loans to other members for production, with simple procedures.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam, from Kinh Tu hamlet, a member of the Cooperative, shared: “Previously, I produced on a small scale and faced many difficulties in accessing capital for production investment. Borrowing from banks involved cumbersome procedures, while borrowing from outside sources had high interest rates and significant risks. Since borrowing 5 million VND from the revolving fund at a low interest rate, I've been able to manage my farming season. Each year, after deducting expenses, my family earns about 80 million VND, which has helped stabilize our finances and provides a little extra for reinvestment. I hope the Cooperative will continue to develop and help more households improve their living standards.”

For Cai Bat Cooperative, through its operation and development, it has helped people change their fragmented, small-scale production methods, applying advanced production techniques to create a safe product chain according to VietGAP and ASC standards. In addition, the cooperative has diversified its service sectors such as purchasing, production, and brand building associated with key local agricultural products, achieving OCOP certification at 3 stars for dried shrimp, shrimp crackers, fish cakes, and live crabs; frozen tiger shrimp achieved OCOP at 4 stars. All products are produced using clean processes and have clear traceability.

The Cai Bat Cooperative helps rural workers increase their income.

The Cai Bat Cooperative helps rural workers increase their income.

Due to its production process involving many stages and steps, the cooperative has created regular employment for nearly 10 workers, with an average salary of approximately 4-5 million VND per person per month.

Ms. Pham Thi Dieu, from Cai Bat hamlet, happily shared: "Working at the cooperative provides me with a stable and regular monthly income, which improves my living standards and allows me to confidently provide for my family."

Mr. Phan Van Bao, a civil servant in charge of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, irrigation, and collective economy in Hoa My commune, said: “In recent times, the conversion of small-scale, fragmented production methods to cooperative models has been widely implemented in the commune. This process aims to improve production efficiency, product quality, strengthen linkages between households, and change production mindsets towards collective production, making an important contribution to the local government in solving the problem of employment, increasing people's income, and jointly building a sustainable and developed new rural area.”
