Advantages of a safe destination

According to the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, in February 2026, Vietnam welcomed over 2.2 million international visitors, marking the third consecutive month that the number of visitors exceeded 2 million, after reaching 2.45 million in January 2026 and 2.02 million in December 2025.

In the first two months of this year, Vietnam welcomed nearly 4.7 million international visitors, an increase of 18.1% compared to the same period last year. Experts believe that this growth is due not only to efforts to ease visa policies, diversify products, and boost promotion, but also to the attractiveness of being a safe tourist destination.

In recent years, Vietnamese tourism has consistently received high praise from international media for its safety and reliability. The American travel website Travel Off Path once lauded Vietnam as the safest destination in Asia. The international organization Best Diplomats named Vietnam among the top 10 safest destinations in Asia. In a recent ranking of the 25 best countries for solo travelers by Travel+Leisure magazine, Vietnam appeared in the top 5. Prior to that, we were also the only country in Southeast Asia to be included in Time Out magazine's list of the 9 safest destinations for women traveling solo… As independent travel, solo travel, and small group travel become trends, these positive acknowledgments are even more significant in reinforcing confidence and directly influencing the destination choices of international tourists.

Notably, Vietnam's tourism safety advantage stems not only from its stable political and security foundation, low crime rate, and peaceful natural environment, but also from the friendliness and openness of its people, along with their ability to respond to risks, handle incidents, and protect tourists' rights when situations arise. Many cases of foreign tourists losing their belongings have been reported, with locals finding them and handing them over to authorities for return intact. When encountering difficulties during their travels, many tourists have also received timely assistance from the community and local authorities.

In January 2026, after receiving a wallet containing money and personal documents belonging to an American tourist from a local resident, the Tay Hoa Lu Ward Police (Ninh Binh) quickly verified the information, searched for the owner of the lost property, and completed the handover procedures. At the end of February 2026, upon receiving information about an American tourist lost in the rugged mountainous area bordering Gia Lai and Quang Ngai provinces, the Dang Thuy Tram Commune Police (Quang Ngai) immediately went to the area to search for the tourist, took them to the commune's health station for treatment, arranged food and drink, and helped them stabilize their mental and physical health... These timely and responsible acts of assistance left a deep impression on international tourists about a warm and hospitable Vietnam.

Nowadays, safety is not only a necessary condition for a destination, but also a prominent competitive advantage. Experts believe that Vietnam is facing an opportunity to attract tourists who are shifting away from areas with potential risks in search of safer and more stable destinations.

Vietnam also needs to work immediately with domestic and international airlines to adjust and facilitate flight routes connecting international tourists.

A fulfilling trip is created by beautiful scenery, good service, delicious food, and a feeling of peace and comfort. The entire tourism industry needs to continue to tighten destination management, build a civilized tourism environment, and thoroughly address acts of harassment, fraud, and price gouging. Along with that, it is necessary to continue improving mechanisms to protect the rights of tourists, operate hotlines, and enhance the capacity to respond to emerging incidents.
