Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone next year. While rumors have focused on the book-like folding design and camera array, the question of battery capacity remains controversial, especially in the context of Apple's recent focus on thin and light devices.
According to the account yeux1122 , a source specializing in synthesizing leaked information on the Naver blog, Apple is testing a battery with a capacity of 5,400-5,800 mAh for the foldable iPhone model. If this information is correct, this will be the largest battery capacity ever on an Apple smartphone. For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max currently has a 5,088 mAh battery.
The test data also shows that the foldable iPhone can outperform many foldable devices currently on the market. Google's Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a 5,015 mAh battery, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 has a 4,400 mAh battery.
With many foldable smartphones having to sacrifice battery capacity to ensure a slim design, leaked information about the above capacity level makes the tech world expect that Apple can bring better battery life.
A March report from a Korean news aggregator said Apple was focusing on optimizing power efficiency and miniaturizing internal components to accommodate the foldable's structure. Battery life appears to be a top priority for the company during development.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also mentioned that Apple uses high-density battery cells for new devices to improve energy efficiency.
While the foldable smartphone market is expanding, Apple has yet to enter this arena. Therefore, rumors related to the first foldable iPhone model are attracting great attention. However, most of the current information is still unconfirmed. Apple does not comment on leaks during the product development stage.
However, the constant mention of battery capacity suggests that Apple may be working to address the biggest limitation of the foldable device. If the new iPhone model does indeed have the reported battery capacity, this could become a competitive advantage when Apple officially enters the market next year.
