Bayindir could leave MU at the end of the season. |
Turkish representatives reached a verbal agreement with the 27-year-old goalkeeper during the last winter transfer window. However, Manchester United unexpectedly reversed their decision at the last minute. Despite this, Besiktas hasn't given up. The club's management is reportedly determined to push all limits to complete the deal when the summer transfer window opens.
MU started the season with Bayindir as the number one goalkeeper, after Andre Onana was loaned to Trabzonspor and Senne Lammens was signed from Royal Antwerp. However, unconvincing performances led to Bayindir losing his starting spot to Lammens.
Since then, the Belgian goalkeeper has played every minute in every competition and has firmly established himself as the number one. In this context, Bayindir is unlikely to accept a long-term reserve role.
Sources indicate that Bayindir was willing to take a pay cut to join Besiktas earlier this year, but MU did not agree. Next summer could be the right time for the two sides to part ways. In addition, the Red Devils will also look to sell Onana outright.
In the event that Bayindir and Onana leave, MU will likely look for a young goalkeeper as a backup option for Lammens. The name being closely monitored is Melker Ellborg of Malmo FF.
