Former manager Louis van Gaal has spoken out harshly about the current state of Manchester United.

MU is struggling to regain its former glory.

In an interview with Sky Sports , the Dutch manager asserted that Manchester United had become "a commercial club, not a football club anymore." He said: "When the manager isn't allowed to decide which players to buy, things become very difficult. If someone else buys the players, you run into problems."

Coach Van Gaal also urged Manchester United to learn from Liverpool, where coach Arne Slot has the freedom to select players. "Coaches need to be trusted to choose the right players, because they are the ones directly coaching them. Manchester United should look at how Liverpool operates and achieves success. They should learn from that," the former Netherlands national team coach emphasized.

Van Gaal arrived at Old Trafford in 2014 to replace David Moyes. During his two seasons managing the "Red Devils," Van Gaal led the team to win the FA Cup in 2016, but just days after that success, he was sacked.

Since then, Manchester United has been mired in crisis, despite spending billions of pounds on transfers. Van Gaal's warning comes as Manchester United has just experienced its worst season in the Premier League era.

Last season, they didn't win any titles and, for the second time since 1990, failed to qualify for European competition. New coach Ruben Amorim is facing a difficult challenge, similar to many of his predecessors.
