In a social media post on September 18th, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the MacBook Pro model with an OLED display, expected to begin production in late 2026, will support touch functionality.
"The MacBook models will feature touchscreens for the first time, narrowing the gap with the iPad."
This change appears to reflect Apple's long-term observation strategy regarding iPad user behavior. They've found that in certain situations, touch controls can enhance performance and the overall experience,” Kuo commented.
Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman revealed similar information two years ago. However, it's unclear whether the OLED MacBook Pro will launch in 2026 or early 2027.
The current MacBook Pro uses the M4 chip. If the rumors are accurate, the MacBook Pro OLED with a touchscreen is still two generations away.
According to the projected schedule, Apple may launch the MacBook Pro M5 early next year, with few changes except for a new processor. Following that, the MacBook Pro M6 will be a more significant upgrade, featuring a touchscreen and an OLED display as rumored.
According to 9to5Mac , the addition of a touchscreen will bring MacBooks closer to iPads in terms of functionality. Previously, Apple brought features like the menu bar and multi-window multitasking to iPadOS 26. Conversely, the company also brought many interface elements from the iPad to macOS 26.
In fact, touchscreens are nothing new to Windows computers. Some people prefer using their fingers to scroll and zoom on content on the screen instead of a trackpad.
Some young people often mistakenly believe that MacBooks support touch functionality like iPhones. They might be surprised to learn that Apple computers don't yet have this feature.
Kuo's post also revealed a cheaper MacBook version, using A-series chips, expected to go into mass production starting in Q4, launching at the end of this year or early 2026. Notably, the second generation is also likely to feature a touchscreen display.
"A more affordable MacBook model, using the same processor as the iPhone, is expected to go into mass production starting in Q4 2025, and will not support a touchscreen."
Meanwhile, specifications for the second generation, expected to launch in 2027, are being discussed and may support touch functionality,” the analyst added.
Kuo was also the first to share information about a budget MacBook. Back in June, he stated that the product would feature a 13-inch screen, an A18 Pro processor, and multiple color options including silver, blue, pink, and gold.
Many reviews indicate that the A18 Pro's performance is comparable to the M1 chip. DigiTimes magazine from Taiwan predicts the product's price in the US to be around $600-$700 .
If launched, the device would be positioned lower than the MacBook Air, which has a 13.6-inch screen, an M4 chip, and a starting price of $1,000 . The product might be reminiscent of the 12-inch MacBook released in 2015.
