An Xuyen Commune, Ca Mau City , has a large Khmer ethnic minority population, with a total of 35 households, including one near-poor household. Implementing the government 's program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, Mr. Son Van Sang (Khmer ethnic minority, Hamlet 2, An Xuyen Commune), a near-poor household, received housing support. In recent days, the construction of his house has been accelerated thanks to the help of the local government and family members who contributed their labor and resources. The house, with an area of approximately 95 m2, received additional 10 million VND from the province and Ca Mau City to build a sturdy toilet, ensuring it meets the housing criteria for ethnic minorities. Mr. Sang shared: “Before, I worked as a construction worker. The government provided me with a pair of cows, and now I cut grass in the morning and in the evening. I'm so happy to have received two cows and a house; now I'm striving to escape near-poverty.”

For over 10 years, Sang's family was classified as near-poor, and for that same period, they lived in hardship, having to work as laborers. Thanks to their hard work and the timely social welfare policies of the Party and State, Sang and his wife now enjoy a better life. Mrs. Tran Thi Muoi (Sang's wife) shared: "We are so happy to have a house. Now that our children are grown, we will do what we can to escape poverty."

Mr. Tran Dai Doan, Secretary of the Party Committee of An Xuyen commune, Ca Mau city, informed: "We regularly monitor the area and track the progress of each house construction. Once the people have houses, the commune will support them in raising chickens and pigs to help them escape poverty quickly."

Ms. Ly Thi Binh (of Khmer ethnicity, Hamlet 3, Tan Xuyen Ward) is classified as a poor household; her life is very difficult due to the death of her husband, leaving her alone to raise more than 10 grandchildren. Recognizing her difficult circumstances, the local authorities provided her with a house under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. The house was completed just in time for the Chol Chnam Thmay New Year of the ethnic minority, so she is very happy. During this New Year, her family prepares offerings in their new house according to the customs of their ethnic group. Ms. Binh said: "Now I have a decent house. For Tet, I offer sacrifices according to tradition, one offering at home and another at the temple. Just like the Vietnamese New Year, if we have much, we prepare much; if we have little, we prepare little."

The house of Ms. Ly Thi Binh (Khmer ethnic minority, wearing a black shirt in the middle), Hamlet 3, Tan Xuyen Ward, is nearing completion.

Ward 1, Ca Mau City, is also home to a large Khmer ethnic minority population, with approximately 500 households. Over the years, thanks to ethnic policies, the people have developed a proper understanding; their houses are more spacious and well-maintained, and they have united to improve their lives. Not only have they become more prosperous materially, but the Khmer people have also enriched and beautified their homeland of Ca Mau with their traditional cultural identity. Ms. Danh Thi Giau (Hamlet 3) happily shared: “Our family has received much help from the local authorities. Now the roads are clean and well-maintained; our neighbors here always support each other, showing affection and consideration.”

“Over the years, thanks to social welfare policies such as building solidarity houses, houses of compassion, and providing production capital, the lives of the Khmer ethnic minority people have become increasingly prosperous and happy. During the Lunar New Year, local leaders distribute gifts to each household; they also visit and inquire about any difficulties the ethnic minority people may face in order to provide assistance. I welcome the Party's guidelines,” said Ms. Tran Thi Tam, Deputy Head of Hamlet 3, Ward 1, gratefully.
