Speaking at the meeting, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee stated that 2025 is a historically significant milestone for the country as well as for Ho Chi Minh City. The merger with the former provinces of Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau has created a new development space, bringing together three leading dynamic economic centers in the country, forming the largest urban-industrial-seaport region in Vietnam, gradually affirming its position in the region and internationally.
The new Ho Chi Minh City, with an area of over 6,700 km² and a population of over 14 million people, has opened up enormous potential for development. The socio-economic situation of the (new) Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 achieved many positive results: GRDP increased by 8.03%; GRDP per capita reached nearly 8,800 USD; total state budget revenue exceeded 800 trillion VND; national defense and security were maintained; and foreign relations and international integration were comprehensively promoted. These results were significantly contributed to by the business community, scientists , experts, intellectuals, and Vietnamese people around the world.
According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, there are currently about 2.8 million Vietnamese people living abroad who have direct or indirect connections with Ho Chi Minh City. This is a valuable resource in terms of knowledge, management experience, technology, finance, and international networks. Overseas Vietnamese have been and are actively contributing to the country in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular through investment, business, knowledge transfer, policy critique; participating in many essential fields such as urban planning, transportation, environmental protection, specialized healthcare , science and technology, and digital transformation.
In 2025 alone, remittances to Ho Chi Minh City exceeded US$10.3 billion, an 8.3% increase compared to the previous year. Amidst the volatile global economic and political landscape, this figure demonstrates the continued sustainable growth of remittances to Ho Chi Minh City, highlighting its position as the largest recipient of remittances in the country. This figure is not only significant economically but also reflects the strong confidence of the overseas Vietnamese community in the city. “The city views this as a capital of trust, reflecting the quality of governance, transparency in administration, and the long-term attractiveness of the city on the international investment map. Each remittance is not just economic value but also represents sentiment, trust, and the future of the homeland,” a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee stated.
For everyone on this earth, our roots and homeland are something we always cherish, no matter where we go or where we are. And it becomes even more precious and beloved when our homeland becomes increasingly prosperous and beautiful, when love spreads further, and when the values and way of life remain sincere, as the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed: "The city is committed to always being a common home, a place where all Vietnamese people, no matter where in the world, can return, invest, contribute, and proudly call it their homeland; working together, united in heart and mind, for the development of our homeland and country."
