Cheered on by a large crowd, Malaysia started the match proactively. In the 6th minute, the home team had their first corner kick. The ball was lofted into the 5.5-meter area, but Nguyen Filip rushed out and made a clean catch.

In the 14th minute, the Vietnamese team had a chance. A gap opened up in front of Ngoc Quang after a defensive error by the home team's defender. However, the HAGL player was unable to finish the shot at the wide-open goal.

Thirty minutes passed, and although the Malaysian team didn't have a significant height advantage, they continuously sent balls in from both flanks. This tactic hadn't created many breakthroughs against Vietnam's solid defense.

In the 36th minute, the Bukit Jalil Stadium crowd erupted in disappointment after an impressive long-range shot from left-back Dion Cools. The ball went past Nguyen Filip's reach but hit the post. Vietnam avoided defeat but suffered a setback when Thanh Chung was injured and unable to continue playing. Coach Kim Sang-sik decided to bring Xuan Manh on as a replacement.

In the 40th minute, Nguyen Filip's goal was threatened again, this time after a close-range header from Joao Figueiredo. The goalkeeper, who plays for Hanoi Police FC, impressed with his reflexes, saving the visitors from conceding a goal.

In the 44th minute, the red-shirted defense unexpectedly made a mistake. Arif Aiman successfully won the ball on the right wing and broke through to face Nguyen Filip. The number 12 player chipped the ball skillfully, but it was saved by the Vietnamese national team's number one goalkeeper.

The first half ended with Malaysia dominating possession. The home team attacked effectively and only lacked a bit of luck to score the opening goal. Conversely, the Vietnamese team had no significant opportunities. The only bright spot in the 45 minutes was the outstanding performance of Nguyen Filip.

At the start of the second half, coach Kim Sang-sik decided to bring Tuan Hai onto the field to strengthen the attack. Before the South Korean strategist's calculations could take effect, Nguyen Filip's net was shaken in the 49th minute. After Ngoc Quang lost possession in midfield, Figueiredo broke through and unleashed a powerful shot that deflected off Duy Manh and into the net.

In the 59th minute, the Vietnamese net was shaken for the second time, again stemming from an individual error. Xuan Manh's slip created an opportunity for Aiman to break through, pass the ball across to Rodrigo Julian Holgado, who rushed in to volley it past Nguyen Filip.

After conceding two quick goals, the Vietnamese team tried to push forward, only to concede a third in the 67th minute. Again, it was Aiman with a speedy run down the wing, before delivering a perfectly placed cross for Corbin-Ong to finish from close range, increasing the home team's lead.

Towards the end of the match, the visiting team launched a desperate attack. Efforts from Quang Hai and Tien Linh were unable to trouble the Malaysian defense. In the 89th minute, Nguyen Filip had to pick the ball out of the net for the fourth time, after a precise close-range header from Dion Cools.
