Man City unveils Cherki. |
On June 10th, Man City announced the signing of Cherki from Lyon for £34 million. The 21-year-old signed a contract that runs until the summer of 2030.
Last season, Cherki had an impressive performance, scoring 12 goals and providing 20 assists in 44 matches across all competitions for Lyon.
Cherki also made an impressive debut for the French national team, coming on as a substitute and scoring a goal in the Nations League semi-final, despite France's 4-5 defeat to Spain.
Sharing his reasons for joining Man City, Cherki said: "This is a dream for me. Joining a club like Man City and having the opportunity to develop my career here is very special. I only left Lyon for a project that I truly believe in, and everything at Man City shows that I can develop my skills and help the team succeed in the future."
The early completion of his signing with Man City has secured Cherki a place in Pep Guardiola's squad for the FIFA Club World Cup. The Etihad Stadium side will kick off their campaign with a match against Wydad AC (Morocco) on June 18th.
Cherki is Man City's third signing this summer, following the arrival of left-back Rayan Ait Nouri from Wolves and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea. All three new signings are ready for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
In addition, Man City have also reached an agreement to sign Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for a fee of nearly £70 million. This deal is expected to be signed when the midfielder returns from the Netherlands national team's training camp.
