Guehi joined Man City for approximately 23 million euros. |
British media outlets have unanimously confirmed that center-back Marc Guehi will leave Crystal Palace and join Manchester City in January 2026. The Etihad Stadium club has overcome competition from Liverpool and Arsenal to take the lead in the race for the England international's signature.
Despite Guehi's contract with Palace expiring at the end of the season, Man City agreed to pay over 23 million euros to complete the deal. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano used his familiar phrase "Here we go" to confirm the transfer was finalized.
Man City have reached a personal agreement with Guehi, thus removing the biggest obstacle in the deal. Guehi will not be included in Palace's squad for this weekend's match against Sunderland, as the Eagles are currently on a nine-match winless streak across all competitions.
This is a major turning point for Guehi, four months after his transfer to Liverpool fell through at the last minute. At the time, Palace withdrew from the €40 million deal because they couldn't find a replacement, even though Guehi had completed his medical at Anfield. Liverpool were still monitoring the defender, but weren't willing to meet the fee that Man City were willing to pay in January 2026.
For Pep Guardiola, Guehi is a necessary addition given Manchester City's defense is struggling with injuries, as Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol are both out with long-term injuries. Before Guehi, "The Citizens" spent 70 million euros to sign Semenyo from Bournemouth.
Having come through the Chelsea academy, Guehi spent four seasons with Palace and established himself as a key player under manager Oliver Glasner. He is also a preferred choice for the England national team and aims to win the 2026 World Cup.
