Manchester United suffer injury nightmare

Manager Ruben Amorim is concerned about Manchester United's injury situation ahead of the second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Athletic Club.

Speaking to the press after losing 3-4 to home team Brentford in round 35 of the Premier League on May 4, Amorim expressed concern about the team's strength when center-back Matthijs de Ligt limped off the field.

“I don’t know about De Ligt’s situation so I’m worried, not just because of the Europa League match,” Amorim told Sky Sports . “We took Luke Shaw off at half-time to save our squad for the second leg of the semi-final against Athletic Club. Right now, the squad situation really worries me.”

In the match at Brentford, De Ligt returned to the starting lineup of MU for the first time in more than a month of injury, but the Dutch midfielder only played 35 minutes before being injured after a collision with Bryan Mbuemo.

Harry Maguire was then brought on to replace De Ligt. Although De Ligt later left the field without the need for crutches, the Red Devils' medical team feared he would be unlikely to play for the rest of the season. In addition to De Ligt, Maguire and Shaw's health conditions are also not good.

“I don't know what Shaw's condition is yet. We'll wait and see. Hopefully it's not serious. The coaching team had to take a risk and put Maguire on the field," Amorim added.
