On the afternoon of March 10th, users in many countries reported difficulties accessing X. The issue was temporarily resolved, but recurred at 8:30 PM that same day. By 11 PM, X was still not fully restored. 56% of users reported experiencing errors on the app, 33% on the website, and 11% unable to connect to the server.
At its peak, there were over 40,000 error reports for billionaire Elon Musk's social media platform on DownDetector . Users reported being unable to load posts and content on both computers and mobile apps. The outage occurred on the first workday of the week, causing significant inconvenience to customers in North America.

Mashable reported that they tried reloading the browser and updating the app, but no patch was available. Numerous reports were reposted on the social media platform BlueSky, updating the issue of X crashing. Down Detector's error map also showed the problem was widespread, regardless of geographic location.
Variety has contacted the platform to inquire about the issue but has not yet received an official response.
The last time such a major incident occurred with X was in August 2024. At that time, 66% of users reported being unable to use the app, website, and losing connection to the server.
The world's richest man acquired Twitter in October 2022 for $44 billion . He then laid off approximately 80% of its permanent staff. In May 2024, the official website became X.com, and the Twitter domain was removed. Musk, who is also the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, renamed the social network in July 2023.
According to the social media platform's leadership, it recovered its user base and peaked in activity hours on US election day. X also became an important propaganda tool as Elon Musk was a fervent supporter of Republican candidate Donald Trump.
